That would be a dream come true but there goes all our Blue chip prospects and majority of our picks.

Not to mention the fact that Laine needs a new deal soon and will probably want 10mil ish.......no thank you. I’d be all for getting JP out of Edm, but the cost of getting Laine (one of the most one-dimensional players in the league) would be waaaaaaaaaaayyy too much.

Laine will be costly I'm sure jets would want at least 1 of our 3 or 5 picks plus more. no way sens do it.

So one single series is all it takes to condemn a players entire career in Ottawa? The entire team was poop in that series.....FFS, Chris Philips scores the cup clinching goal on his own net.

Spezza was a great player for Ottawa, and NOBODY will ever convince me otherwise.

Actually, yes - you only get so many chances to win a championship, and they don't give out awards for playing well against non-playoff teams in January. Some players elevate their games when they get close to the Stanley Cup, some don't. If you want to see what that looks like, Alfredsson absolutely did in 2007, and Karlsson absolutely did in 2016. In fact, your point that the entire team was crap in the 2007 Stanley Cup Finals is nonsense... they lost by 1 goal in 3 of those games, and held leads in more than 1/2 of the games. What would have been nice is some G-D production from their supposed star talent in Spezza/Heatley. Alfredsson/Fisher outscored Spezza/Heatley 6:1 in that series... in fact Spezza/Heatley had fewer points than Kelly/Schaefer.

Spezza was an immensely talented player, but had serious defensive issues, a relatively occasional work ethic, wasn't able to play at his best when it mattered, and had no business whatsoever wearing a "C". That falls short of my definition of great, and I would hope that they do better with their #3/5 picks in the coming draft.

The Sabres announce they have signed center Curtis Lazar to a two-year contract with an AAV of $800,000.

Laine is a good player, but I don’t think he’s worth what the jets would want in a trade.

Cap is frozen for a few years anyway. Players with dreams of huge long term contracts are going to have to lower their expectations. This may be the ideal time to do a deal for an elite player in need of a new contract. Many of the teams just don't have the space to finalize a long term deal.

I think Pietrangelo will resign in St Louis for less money and term than was expected. Is it possible to get Laine on a long term deal for $8m. Maybe.

Honestly, good for him. I'm happy he found full time work back in the NHL.

5 goals 5 assists in 38 GP last year. Looks like he could be a good 4th line contributer for them.

Usually players in their 30s start loosing it and fast but not Alfie. He had his best years in his early to late 30s because he played with Spezza. Nobody could serve a table like Spezza. Great hockey player. Chronic back problems really slowed him down.
