Went from a plus player his entire career to a minus player the past 3 years. BUt I know very little. - bixll
+/- is a terrible statistic.
If you look at some advanced stats they haven't really moved at all over the past number of years. He's very consistent -- much like AP. |

Ummmm, by 1 point. He is 35 with 5 years left at 7.5 (frank) no.. |

he could trade holl for Mcdavid and he would complain the leafs dont need anymore forwards - senstroll
He's a true, irrational contrarian. |

how much bettter defensively is letang over rielly?
duncan keith had brian campbell to shoulder the load in their 1st cup run. and the good version of seabrook later.
rielly looked to me like he was playing hurt a lot of the year last year. looked great with a reliable hainsey. maybe a guy like tanev is all we need to complete the top pair. - Tumbleweed
Letang is pretty bad defensively..
I agree though, I think a guy like Pesce, instead of Tanev, would be better suited to play with Rielly.. We do need the defensive depth more than just one guy..

I imagine that's the type of debate that's playing out in the Leafs war room. |

He was tracking towards 57 points if he played a full season.
I'm not suggesting the Leafs actually try to acquire Ryan Suter! I'm using him as a close comparable to what AP is and how Petro might age. |

Signing Pietrangelo means that they would need to move assets to get him - PatC80
Yes - But you are moving those assets (hopefully) for picks/prospects and depth players.
My point is sign Pietrangelo and trade Nylander for picks/prospects is a better option than trading Nylander straight up for a lesser defenseman.

I think Keith was better defensively than people give him credit for.. I hope Rielly can be at Keith's level, but with that said, even Keith needed a solid, reliable partner to play with.
So, maybe getting someone like a Pesce would be beneficial to Rielly's game? - PatC80
He's been my guy all along.
Although it sounds like the Canes' have shut that down. |

Would like to see the Leafs move up in the draft order somehow and draft Askarov.
Schneider does look promising though. |

Right..
Now, if Rielly could be better defensively maybe then he would be considered a true #1 D |

He’s already 26... he’s not gonna get better defensively. Best to get him a partner who is good defensively to cover for him. |
