The man who think Nylander can't be moved think s the 3rd liner and 1 time 40 point player didn't get enough with 15th overall+Pens top prospect. LOL

I've heard a lot of teams don't like Nylander, because he's in front of the net too much scoring goals, meaning other guys won't get to do that.

Nylander is not a team player.

Worst top 6 player in the NHL, will have to retain salary to get rid of him. 🤣

It isn't a 'great return'.
Kapanen is worth more than that 15th overall, and the prospect might never make it to NHL. So the jury is still out on that trade

- MaximusAurelius

So Kapanen is worth more than the 15th overall.

But the jury is still out on the trade because we don't yet know the value of the 15th overall pick.

I'm amazed that you know the value of the 15th pick while simultaneously not knowing the value of the 15th pick.

A 15th in this draft is much better than Kapanen. If they make the right pick.

I think you are in a minority of people (aside from Islanders and Nucks trolls) who think the Leafs didn't get a very good return on Kapanen. 15th pick in an expected very good draft, a decent prospect and $3.2M of cap space. Leafs did ok IMO
- winsix

I think they did ok. But not a 'great return' as some want to sell it as. Kapanen is a legit 3rd line winger with upside who can play pk and with the right linemates could be a decent 2nd liner.

I mean DeMelo is pretty decent as a 4-5. Bogosian has looked ok playing 16 minutes a night...but "upgrade" is stretching it on those guys.
- AdamFrench

I don't see them as significant enough upgrades to bother.

Pursue a coach who can get the team to play team defense, and a goalie who doesn't poop the bed in the most important games.

So here's the question:

If the Leafs tell them they have $56M over 7 years to give him, here's a computer with an excel spreadsheet, you and your agent structure it any way you want it, does that get a deal done?

Someone else will offer more.

You know what the jury is still out on? Kapanen necessarily being worth more than the 15 overall pick.

That remains to be seen.

The jury is out bc of unknown future of hallander (not a sure bet to make nhl). And 15th pick - not sure who will be player picked, at least Kapanen is sure value

Why would we trade a young player for an old one.
Havent we learned from doing that all those years in the past?

- Fakepartofme

we need $ going out if $ is coming back in.

johnsson doesn't have much upside. that's not a trade that would come back to haunt us.

Unfortunately he'll be gone by pick #13

Trade for Anaheim's pick and get Drysdale or Askarov whichever is available

Marner and Tavares weren't good enough?

Matthews and Nylander weren't the right guys?

Perhaps, a lot of people would really like Pietrangelo to sign with the Leafs, but are not sure how to feel about it, if it means we lose Nylander...

Or is that just me?

- PatC80

No it isn't just you.

Signing high priced free agents has never been a good strategy. Tavares is no exception and neither is Pietrangelo.

We should know a lot more about the financial position of teams beginning Sep 25th.

Lots of buyouts will show how desperate some teams are to save cash.

Keefe has had success at every level and to do that you can't be a one-trick pony who relies solely on offense or defense.

Let's give Keefe a chance to run with a team for an entire season. A team that isn't severely flawed (Dubas, fix the damn d-corps and add some sandpaper to the forward group!).

Agreed on the goalie situation though. One wonders how Andy would do with a team that could be a bit more well-rounded?

I'm wondering if a few small market teams will elect to do nothing on the first day of free agency.

Just sit and watch the clouds go by for a couple of months, hoping to get a better picture of what the situation will be.

If it turns out that it's only a 48 game season with limited spectators, some teams may be OK with simply doing nothing, gritting their teeth and getting through the season, and worrying about improving the team a year later.
