More than ever, wouldn't it be ideal for Arizona to move that contract? Not sure where you're hearing that the Leafs aren't interested in LTIR moves if it means they can squeeze some assets out of any such deal.
EDIT: Nevermind, forgot that insurance may pay a substantial portion of his salary. - mjones242
Question 2: Can you please explain – slowly so I understand – how the Leafs taking on contracts of players on LTIR would ‘give them wiggle room’ with the cap next year? I keep seeing such suggestions in other publications.
I may not even have to explain this one slowly to be honest.
Here goes: There is absolutely no benefit to the Leafs acquiring a long-term injured reserve contract. I know that runs counter to some of the conversations out there, but it’s true.
In fact, the Leafs will get a nice little boost from not having an LTIR contract for the first time in a very long time next season.
When the Leafs traded David Clarkson for Nathan Horton back in 2015, it wasn’t that they loved the idea of getting an injured player. They wanted the LTIR contract so that they didn’t have to play Clarkson at a $5.25 million cap hit. Having a non-entity was better than that.
The two reasons they then reacquired Clarkson’s contract last summer were both very unique scenarios:
1. They were already in LTIR due to Horton, so adding another LTIR contract wasn’t going to cause them to enter it.
2. They had Mitch Marner unsigned with training camp approaching, and that made having some LTIR flexibility more important for some complex reasons that are explained fully here.
The Leafs are not in either situation next year. They have no one on LTIR, for the first time in a long time. And management is happy about it.
The thing about LTIR is it robs teams of the ability to accrue cap space during the season. The simplest way to explain that is that if you enter the year with let’s say $200,000 cap space, that unused money will grow over time, to the point it can more than quadruple by the trade deadline. Not being in LTIR is great for flexibility.
When you enter LTIR, however, you simply have as much space as you have. Having an injured player does not give you any additional money to spend.
Now, we’ve seen other teams acquire LTIR contracts over the years, but they were always teams with a lot of extra cap space (not the Leafs) and they received something good in order to take on a Zombie Hossa deal. That’s simply not on the table for Toronto.
In conclusion? LTIR contracts are not good. Being in LTIR is not a good thing. The Leafs don’t want to be in LTIR again, and they don’t want those contracts.

Nice version of this song. Fripp was the guitarist on the original track - winsix
That is nice. That’s a band I haven’t thought about in a long time.
BTW, kind of a cool Brit tv show, Life on Mars worth watching. Kind of a concept detective thing from 2006. Detective cop gets smushed in a hit and run getting out of his car listening to Life on Mars and finds himself as detective in 1973, working, solving cases and trying to figure out how to get back to 2006. Music is fun.

still waiting for that article on how covid epidemic is overblown, bobby. - MaximusAurelius
Didn't say it was overblown, said 1 % are testing positive instead of the 17% that were testing positive and there are less deaths.
I looked for about five minutes couldn't find it again.

I dont know why he continues to post bogus rumours. Everyone knows he's a fraud. He should focus on improving the site opposed to posting his fake rumours. Does anyone actually come to the site to see them? - Archaic
i wouldn't say he is a fraud.
He has "sources" that provide chatter/rumours.
He never states who these sources are, could be an admin guy within the nhl, a grounds crew at an nhl arena, a former broadcaster/player/ref, some media schlep?
Who knows, but someone tells him something, he doesnt fact check, he simply repeats.
It seems to have worked, we are all using his site.

still approx 5000 deaths / day globally. similar numbers since early april.
there is absolutely no decrease in # of covid-deaths..
it is very likely as well that in Northern hemisphere, in particular US, Canada, Europe and Mexico, those # deaths / day will go up from Oct to February (compared with last 3 months)

Ek knows that his rumours are irrelevant to his business model so he doesn’t even try.

Really enjoyed Life on Mars but I couldn't quite get into the sequel series Ashes to Ashes. May have to give the latter a chance again.
Digressing back to King Crimson, I could never quite get into that band. I do, however, absolutely love their track "The Court of the Crimson King" -- go figure.

Maybe that is Bobby's opinion. Double standards Max.. - bixll
No, I actually read the article that said the percentages were way down. That there are more positives because of the amount of testing. I believe it's over 47 thousand a day now. Only makes sense. If they tested 40 thousand in may and June there would have been a hell of a lot more positives.

Well I'm talking about Ontario, should have clarified that.
