Kind of amazing that he had the same number of goals in the playoffs as he did during the regular season.

I find it interesting that we find a guy who has proven to be able to put up 30-40 goals and we want to trade him.

We need players of all types. I like Highmore. He's defensively sound and tries really hard, puts in the work and is smart. A team full of Highmores gets you the MN Wild.

He's also proven he's capable of 18 goals. If Dinky is not scoring we don't need him he doesn't do anything else well.

Except for the fact that most of his other metrics were an improvement over previous years. I'm not saying he's a great complete player by any stretch, but he's not a slouch. Yes he had 18 goals this year, but his shot numbers were right up where they normally are. I have more faith in a 22 year old shaking off a low shooting percentage (not unlike Toews did after a couple sub par years) to get back to his normal production than trading him for someone else that we hope can put up 25. He's been an elite goal scorer at every level, an the first two years in the NHL.

ADB had 18 goals (and 45 pts) in a poor shooting year in only 70 games. I'm going to hedge and say that is likely his low water mark and not his norm.

Dcat will have a bounce back year 25 to 30 goals next year. In his first three years is averaging about 30 goals per i ll take that.

I think that is the Oiler's decision right up to the day of the draft probably because although there was s ruling, it states:
Result: Due to a shortened season, NHL ruled that Edmonton will transfer a 3rd round pick in either 2020 or 2021..

So, if Edmonton keeps it, that makes sense since they only presently select in the 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th., and would keep that 3rd in 2020.
If they wait until next year 's 3rd round to throw it to Calgary, they select in the 1st, 4th, 6th, 6th, and 7th. that 4th comes a bit quicker than the 2020 5th rounder.

Since the trade was made with Calgary, their ONE selection is the Blackhawks, IF they no longer get the Oilers 3rd rounder....I am sure Calgary doesn't care maybe even prefer the OILERS "decide to wait" then the in 2021 have a 1st, 2nd, and two 3rds....

The NHL ruled that the Oilers had to send the Flames a 3rd round pick in 2020 or 2021 and they had until the start of the third round of the 2020 playoffs to decide. We’re well past that point now and I haven’t seen an announcement.

Agree as was stated earlier Dcat shooting percentage way down this year, most likely It will go back up.
On the flip side Kubalik percentage was very high, 19% I believe ,so chances are he will score less next year.

Kubalik named on rookie all star squad so he earned another $215,000 in ELC performance bonuses. I looked at cap friendly and it shows the Hawks with a total of just under 1.1M in carryover bonus overages from last year.

Can anyone answer if that means the Hawks cap to fill out the roster this year is then effectively about 80.4M instead of 81.5M?

Edit - I think I figured in out. Capfriendly factors in the 1.1M bonus overage into this year's projected cap hit of 73.7M. Hawks have about 7.8M and only 17 signed players on the roster.

Thanks, Darth I didn't know that--- I would try asking a Calgary beat writer.

I just remembered during the Kane draft when Tallon had no clue if the smolinki to Canucks for a defat pick was finalized prior to the start of the draft...

All the passer had to do was drag a leg and that goal stands. Not very good hockey IQ there.

The deadline is the start of the 3rd round of the DRAFT, not the 3rd round of the playoffs.

Quote from the following link:

The Flames may acquire the Oilers 2020 third round pick after the NHL ruled Edmonton will transfer their own third round pick in either the 2020 or 2021 NHL Draft to Calgary. The Oilers have until the beginning of the third round in the 2020 NHL Draft to make the decision on which year the pick will be transferred.

Interesting, thanks. The reports I read previously specifically said the 3rd round of the playoffs, not the draft. This makes more sense.

DaHaan, Maata interest might have just gone up

Craig Morgan of azcoyotesinsider.com writes that veteran defenceman Niklas Hjalmarsson will not waive his no-move clause for a trade from the Arizona Coyotes this off-season.

That's some down-to-the-wire gamesmanship to allow a team to decide right before that specific draft round. This storyline gets even more amplified considering the Alberta rivalry between the Flames and Oilers.

A question for all of those here who follow the lower leagues:

Why is there so much more prolific scoring in the CHL vs places like NCAA, AHL, EU, KHL?

Is the competition that much better in the other leagues? Better D (or any D) being played? Other reasons?

I think some of it has to do with a lot of 16, 17 year olds playing with 19 year olds (and some 20 year olds)

He was injured. Why else would he fumble passes a lot when he never did it before, probably in his whole life. Seemed obvious to me. Then again, I know what I'm looking at from experience. I sprained ligaments in my hand where sometimes it would not effect my game, and other moments my hand would be half numb instantly. The guy is too awesome to fall off like that. It was a huge loss for us. We needed ADB in that series.

I would have to consider it. its a pretty deep draft and the reality is no one looked good on DEF vs Vegas. I like Murph because he has size but the reality is our D is also really slow. my guess is tor would also want to include kerfoot or Johanson to help with salary.

Murphy is only $3.8. Dubas isn't going to get a top 4 defenseman any cheaper. Joel Edmonson who has been nothing but a #5/6 defenseman just got 4 years $3.5 million with a NTC from Montreal. They traded Kapanen for the first to free up money and use the first to get a defenseman. If Kerfoot and or Johanson was included we would have to give up more.
