Oh. So they both must have a bunch of 10+ million dollar players then. - joel878
You're splitting hairs here. Benn's deal look horrible. And with the cap % it was higher than Marner's cap hit. Howe is Seguin any discount? |

But what are you going to do, deal Marner because he'sa million overpaid? No one makes that argument when a GM locks-up a 4th liner for 3 million per. Why say it about a 23 year-old elite player?
It's stupid. people see (10.8) anmd can't get it out of their heads. But it is simply no different than overpaying any player on the roster. Every GM does it.
I am thankful Dubas doesn't overpay useless plugs you can never trade and play 7 minutes a night when as good or better players are always available. Can't say the same about a 90 point forward who's 23. - RogerRoeper
this 10.8 m player hasnt really brought much in the playoffs.
When it counts....i think thats why some people are little pissy about him. |

Teams will line-up for Mitch Marner/ Let's not kid ourselves. - RogerRoeper
They certainly would. But the return would be hindered by the fact that he is overpaid.
For example - I would say Rantanen has more value in a trade right now than Marner does, purely because of the fact that his contract isn't 1.5 million+ overpaid.

Martin was more traded because Babcock would not play him.

No, Leafs had had zereo playoff success. But that should not equal giving up on a guy in his season when he was 22. It's (frank)ing stupid. Dallas has a very old team and got to the finals their first year this year. Tampa has been a cup fav for years and nothing so far. Took Washingtona decade. People need to have patience. |

Should have bridged them all, the whole team is overpaid or under termed.

Anyone who says trade Marner has to be ready to be ok with him scoring 100+ points with his next team. I have a feeling the same people will crap all over Dubas for the trade.
You do not, under any circumstance trade Marner at 23. His best years are ahead of him. When has trading a player this good at that age worked-out for the team?
Also, Marner's cap hit will be loked at differently when Laine, Point Ktachuk sign their new deals soon enough. - RogerRoeper
Leafs have 3 players like this. Your dealing from a position of strength to improve other areas. I wouldn't want to trade Marner unless it makes sense. But it would definitely give the leafs more flexibility if they did. If we want to improve the d and keep it together for a long time one of those three needs to be traded. Otherwise we stay the course and see where it goes. |

They will improve the D while keeping both Marner and Nylander. Just wait and see.
I find it rather lazy seeing "Trade Nylander for a top 4 D" without any thought or explanation about who would be coming back. |

If Marner was a top pairing defenseman, I don't think anyone would care about the large cap hit.
It's because we have 3 forwards making well over $10M per season, two of which are centers. We've seen that all the successful teams have two top line centers .. Which leaves our Marner..
Moving Marner will help fix other issues that this team has. |

Why are we contemplating trading Marner when William Nylander's contract is so obviously and easily moveable? |

Easy. 4 million dollar difference.
If Nylander can stick around and generate offense even close to Marner it absolutely is worth it... Because neither of us have to get into what you can do with an extra 4 million bucks in the cap world.
They both have the same knocks against them really... |

Dubas can move his 15th overall and Lilljegrenb or even Sandin for a top pair D. It doesn't have to be Nylander.
I think Willy cracks 80-90 points next season. |
