Pick out a guy who is going to be better than Andersen, who is going to accept a salary of less than $5M. - Atomic Wedgie
My theory revolves largely around the idea that a better structured balanced team with a competent blueline for the first time ever... Means we don't have to have a goaltender who's 'better'.
Teams that rely on goaltenders so heavily don't seem to ever be successful regardless of how good that goalie is. There's no JS Gigueres dragging teams to cups anymore....
The opposite theory (balanced team, less skilled goaltender, less reliance on said goaltender) seems to be having far more success. As recently as Khudobin and Greiss. |

Tons of teams will be trying to get these guys.
And you included a guy who’s played 27 reg season games at:
27 13 10 2 3.06 .905 - Garnie
Well Andersen's numbers were poop, so yes I include him. |

I agree.
And to make a bold statement, I think if we did sign Pietrangelo, you maybe dump Andersen and roll out Campbell as your 1A, with a vet backup on a $2M deal.
It's not a perfect scenario, but hey, the salary cap makes you do crazy things. |

I think Campbell is perfectly suited to being a goalie who can play 30 games. |

Agreed. I think if thats the route they decide to go on the blueline, they're forced to run with that theory out of necessity. Got to hack the money in goal at that point. |

Agreed. that's why they got him. His numbers are good and he's had to play more thna that with success. |

for sure... If the Leafs sign Pietrangelo trade Andersen and sign a cheaper goalie, like Greiss....
What if Dallas makes Ben Bishop expendable? If Dallas wins the Cup this year and Khudobhin wins the Conn Smythe? |

Actually the two years Freddy played 66 games, he had 2.67- 2.81 gaa and .918 sv%.
Made the playoffs each year
One year he 38 wins.
So your hate theory doesnt fly again

Those years his playoff stats blew. Teams that do that are not having success. One of the years his save % was under 900
The NHl is clearly going to the 1 and 1A system of goalies. |

I agree with you. It's why I think Dubas has to concentrate on fixing the D instead of worrying about "making the most of Andersen's contract".
How do you make the most of it? By playing him with an improved D and team D instead of bringing in a subpar goalie and then hearing all the media stories of how they need a real starting goalie! - Aaron_85
I doubt the reason Andersen is being dangled is because of his contract/trade value.
He's being dangled b/c the Leafs want to improve the D and need cap space wherever they can find it.
He has options for finding that space and Andersen is just one possibility. Why wouldn't he see what's out there?

So, a career journeyman? A Backup goalie that was relegated to the team's 3rd goalie option when he was younger?
That's what you hope for from Campbell? |

in the Cup final, you have both... A team where the goalie can play 60-65 games (Vasilievskiy) and a team that shares time between their goalies(Bishop/Khudobhin)
Let's see which one works before we can decide what is best for the Leafs |

Marner for Pesce straight up!
It's sad that this is the world we are in for hockey and sports. The cap hit is a bigger talking point than the players stats or capabilities.
I'd like to see Dubas go GRR Martin and trade Rielly or Marner. - Aaron_85
this a horrible trade for the Leafs
Wtf. |

When you can, you play your starter over your backup - since your starter would give you better chances of winning the game. It's not that difficult. |
