I take Nylander and a 4 million dollar player over Marner all day every day.
That could be Nylander and a top 4 defenseman. You wouldn't trade Marner for Nylander, Johnsson and a top 4 defenseman?
Marner puts up way more apples, Nylander scored twice as many goals. If that debate can even happen then it's absurd to say Marner is the better keep at 4 million more. - joel878
Last 3 seasons I think Marner has more goals and 83 more points over the last couple hundreds games.

I know that it's just a negotiating tactic by Pietrangelo this far out from the start of free agency, but it would be nice if he did sign here..
If he does stay in St. Louis, I hope the Leafs can offer them a package for Parayko and then somehow get Pesce - PatC80
Not sure if we could fit both Parayko, Pesce, and eventually re-sign Rielly. But maybe that would be a problem for another year?
Kind of thinking Holl and Lehtonen will be given a little leash to begin the year to see what they can do on the 2nd and 3rd lines respectively. |

ah I see how you could assume that but in this case,
they texted it first and then followed up with a call that went un answered |

I think if you bring in those 2 D, holl would either get moved out for cap space or would be an add on in the trade for them to equal out money. |

Because being responsible is boring, and we've been doing this for six months and we are tired of it.
It's easier to pretend this thing doesn't exist or is a hoax or doesn't affect young people. |

Yup, we're all gonna die...so having a legit top 4 d doesnt matter. We can all be friends.
Also, it was expected that as restrictions were loosened, the numbers would go up for a bit.

For Parayko, maybe the Leafs offer Johnsson, Holl and the #15 pick..
For Pesce, maybe it could be Andersen, Dermott and Bracco for Pesce and Mrazek.

Marner is over a PPG player. This is so lopsided its not even funny. Severson isnt some top pair d, and the 7th while valuable, its unlikely to be as good as Marner.
Zacha is the same age(23) as Marner, and isnt really that good. Then you add Dermott, and still young dman who has potential. - Archaic
I personally think Dermont is a bit overrated and with two other defense men competing for a spot. Unless he beats out Sandin I don't see a future here for him.
If New Jersey gives up Severson I would think they'd want a defenseman in a return. Zacha is a big center who's not even in his prime yet. He was on Pace for 40pts. That's pretty damn good for a third line center with a lot of upside.
You see this is where the notion of trading Marner is difficult where both sides are happy lol. I just did it for fun anyway I thought it would be interesting to see other people's takes on trading a guy like Marner for a high draft pick and a defenseman.
PS
I also had the idea the Leafs would sign Pietro since we would have the cap space after a trade like this. |

I think Leaf fans really need to take some time to review Marner's numbers so far and stop and think a bit before they trade him. |

But it’s Christmas.
If Pietro is available you can make an argument to pull the $ together to make it happen because he’s special, etc. If you can trade for Parayko at $5.5, do it because he’s very good at a very good price. Adding another D who puts us in a Pietro level bind at Pesce level skill makes no sense. |

Poor Bracco. We couldn't trade him for a 7th round pick at this point but we have to package him every deal regardless. |

Let’s just dump a truckload of steroids and pics of people burning Swedish flags on Liljegren’s doorstep and build the monster that we need on the blueline
Also, where the F is Rasanen? 😡 - mr.sir
Räsänen didn't do so hot in Liiga/Mestis last year.
I think Mikko Kokkonen is the next great Finnish hope outside of Mikko Lehtonen |

I think we are a couple of weeks away from not having to trade him.
My guess is we are not going to give him an offer, and he walks as a UFA.
I hope he gets a fresh start somewhere else. |

I get it, but usually the team that gets the best player in the deal wins the deal.
In this scenario, Marner is the best player in the deal by significant margin.
Dermott is only 23, dmen take longer to develop. If the Leafs trade him, theyll end up regretting it IMO.

Agreed. I'm sure he'll find a team somewhere that takes a flier on him.
Seems to have a lot of skill but is likely a one-trick, PP specialist pony. |
