I don’t understand your overall point. If someone like Laughton were according to you, a safe first round pick in that situation knowing what the draft board looked like at the time, the Flyers should not have taken him? Because that was what the premise of your initial post was based on.

Not what was being asked or what I responded to from the earlier post. Someone said your should never draft low ceiling 2nd line players in The 1sr rd or something to that effect

Your initial response seemed to be based on the premise that the Flyers should not have taken Rubtsov or Laughton. Maybe I misinterpreted that.

Wentz is playing some bad football....starting to see why they drafted another QB in the second round....
But the d line is supposed to be dominant...withe amount of $ spent....they are terrible.

Pavelski > Hayes

Does comparing to Couturier really matter at this point now? The Dallas wingers are much better than what we have
Since you talk about defense
Heiskanen = Provorov
Klingberg >>>>>>>> Ghost
Olsekiak > Haag
Lindell > Braun

Myers and Sanheim need more experience to compare

- 2Real

Oleskiak is horrible don’t mention him please.

It probably doesn’t. I just want a couple tough players who can play.

Sounds like they’re looking to deal Kessel and Hall is likely to move on. I think Arizona will take anything to stay relevant.

Lawson Crouse is example A of why you never take a safe, low ceiling player in the middle/end of the first round. He was NHL ready at 18, but his absolute ceiling was a 2nd liner.

I just want a tough player with decent skill to stand in front of the net and replace JvR.

When Tkachuk and Roenick were there they were relevant for a few years. Then they moved out of Phoenix.

But otherwise point taken.

My only concern is are you still trying to build around G and Voracek? Because waiting on kids to develop at this point in their career is not leaving much of a window for those guys.

I would love for the scoring issues to be solved internally and I do like our kids. I just think As a whole they’re not keeping up with the rest of the league in terms of forward speed and skill.

- hereticpride

There is plenty of window left open for both players. In Dallas they thought the window was closing with Benn. Now they built the team around him better and they're in the finals. Stating that they not keeping up with the rest of the league in terms of forward speed and skill is an overreaction to the playoffs. I bet you weren't saying that during the regular season.

They had a brief, fleeting moment when Tippett was coaching? Maybe?

And for some reason Bryz was good there?

I dunno. I’m certainly not trying to defend that tire fire. Just speculating.

Pretty much all Arizona teams for most of their existence. Even when they won they felt irrelevant, much like your Marlins example. Hell, Florida teams you can pretty much throw on there as a close 2nd.

And then there’s the Browns and Bengals.

Ooh. And the Clippers until recently. Even when they had Blake Griffin, that fizzled out quickly, and they were by and large garbage for decades upon decades.

Pretty much the Nets, too

the Suns had a cup of coffee with success, but still felt irrelevant to me.

i was going with that 'irrelevant' feel you mentioned. even the Marlins won two WS, and one was against a great Yankees team. Still. Irrelevant.

The Bengals were definitely irrelevant. The Browns feel a little more noticeable, but some of that is that they've got that 'train wreck' thing goin on where you can't help but watch the carnage. and they are an old, established team (if we ignore a few years of vacancy) after all.
