Pietrangelo views a deal worth a total of 64m as taking a hometown discount to stay in his preferred St. Louis. Leafs fans really need to keep that in mind when suggesting what deal he'd take from Toronto lol. - Antilles
One of the Blues problems (and it's actually a good one to have) is that should they re-sign Pietrangelo s ay at $8.5 M - that would have them at $21.5M for RHD. Parayko and Pietrangelo are fine but that deal for Faulk is starting to hurt. In addition he has to
be protected for the Seattle draft because he has a NTC. If Blues sign Pietrangelo which is quite possible, hard to see them being able to keep Parayko. Unless Blues can convince Steen to retire also tough to see where the money will come from to pay Pietrangelo and Dunn.
7x7 with the right bonus and salary structure to optimize his payment - that would be the number for Pietrangelo.
I am not too sure Leafs would such a good fit for him though and visa versa - I feel leafs have better options to improve their chances to win a cup or 2 - MaximusAurelius
Don't sign 31 yr old D men for term and big $... no matter how good...
you can cite all his facts and bonafides till the cows come home.. The Leafs will regret this signing in 3 yrs tops.
Is he a piece the Leafs need.. Yes.. Does he push them over the top.. An emphatic No.
He comes from a team that enhances & magnifies his attributes... The Leafs simply don't play that way and aren't there yet. - dozerD10
Chara at 29 was signed to a 5 year contract that would’ve made him the highest paid player in the league today...by a wide margin. He was then re-signed at 34 to a 7 year contract with a cap hit percentage of 11.64 - that’s 9.49M with an 81.5 salary cap.

I'm also pretty sure that you can't sign a player not able to play for the purpose of circumventing the cap so Mike in Buffalo would be wrong in suggesting it. - Aaron_85
I think he meant getting a Hossa or Gaborik contract and use their LTIR value.

Technically jets have two teams one that used to suck and now sucks more in Arizona and the disaster that no self respecting NHL player wants to play for.
Brian Little says hi. - winsix
Well if we are getting technical the Winnipeg Maple Leafs competed for the Cup before you guys existed so that would be three teams that suck ass

The Leafs are uncompetitive because Dubas folded with Nylander (should’ve made him sit) and then folded with Marner (he should’ve got 9.5). This is hindsight, but Tavares at 11mil also isn’t good value.
KD’s philosophy didn’t work. I never liked it from the beginning, but I can’t really fault him for trying. Now he’s trying to duct tape the holes, and it’s not working. None of the final 4 teams had a player making over 10mil, Leafs have three. Leafs didn’t need JT when they already had Kadri who was a great 2C. And they didn’t need to trade him, he could’ve played wing/pk/fill in for injuries.
Tyson Barrie is a charlatan. Ask any knowledgeable Avs fan about him, they knew he couldn’t defend. Idk on what planet “puck moving defensemen” is a blueprint for success, but defenders need to defend, period. Having a good shot helps, but other than that, they should focus on defending.
I think Dubas has been humbled. He came in bright eyed and bushy tailed, now he’s realizing the analytics side doesn’t carry much weight. Hockey is a team sport. You have to have players willing to do the dirty work, you can’t just hope that your snipers are going to score goals every night. Especially in the playoffs.
Dubas should be sacked. This era is going to go down as the most disappointing era in Leafs history if they don’t make some serious changes. If KD tries to bring AP in, Shanny or whoever should block it.

Correct, he's 30 and would be a big add to the Leafs. Chara was 29 when he signed with the Bruins, think of all that regret. Does he push him over the top - who knows, its a step they have to take if available IMO. - winsix
Bruins rumoured to be going after him as well. Would hate to see them get their next Chara

Chara is a HOF player... Petro is a nice RHD... Lets pretend we're on the same planet.

AP is 31.
Let’s not do this.

Pietrangelo is 30. Dubas is trying to save his job. He'll be more aggressive now. If the Leafs fail Shanny will throw Dubas overboard to save his own ass.

Or maybe we lost because the Leafs suck defensively.

If the bruins do get him I guarantee the people here who don't want Petro right now will be saying we need a Dman like Petro when the Bruins kick our ass in the playoffs next year.

If the Leafs get Petro then Bruins fans will say he's overrated, overpaid and a horrible signing. If the Bruins sign him then Leaf fans will say the same things. 😂

Idk man..
If KD is sacked, Shanny should be too. They’re connected at the hip.
