Boggles my mind how people dont want to give Petro 8.5M but are fine with committing to 2nd pairing 30 year old D for 5M.
If anything history shows us Petro will be fantastic for many more years while the Brodie's, Mansons, ect could turn poop out of no where. The safe bet is Petro if they can clear the space. - Santo_44
Completely agreed on all points.
People underestimate how good Petro actually is. They also underestimate how your top pair will be playing elevated minutes in the playoffs.
Do we want a miscast 2nd pairing guy playing crucial minutes in a Game 7 or a guy who has Stanley Cup Captain pedigree?

Fixed
Andersen + 2nd + Bracco + Rosen for Crouse and Kuemper from Arizona, one year deal for Buff, Simmonds at $700K, lineup has a bit more bite
Holl and Dermott free to a good home
Trade Johnsson + Kerfoot for 2nd and 3rd - winsix
Buff ain’t leaving the woods. He probably doesn’t even know about the pandemic. He’s going to come out for supplies, see a paper, go back in and never come back.

I probably saw Healey at a greasy bar called Grossmans (across from the El Mocambo) a dozen times. Always a great time. Super guitarist
Guitar solo of the week

to Healey, Stevie and Grossmans. Have you seen the pics of El Mocambo? Looking pretty slick. Hopefully the guy doesn’t go bust after putting all that $ in.

If he's not there for $2 million, there will be others available. Need a bruiser imo, there's enough scoring, might need to wait and go bargain hunting. Merrill, Polak, Bogosian, Fobert to name a few.

Another stupid argument is "if Petro gets injured our d core is exactly where we started".
A key to winning the cup is staying healthy. If you get unlucky and get too many injuries you likely aren't winning the cup anyways. - Santo_44
Yup. That's one of my personal favourites.
What if Matthews gets injured? What about Marner?
I mean, you might as well field a squad of mediocre players so that if any one player gets hurt you can be sure that another will step in and have the exact same production.

I used to go to Albert's Hall to catch a blues show almost every week. Saw Albert Collins there at least 10 times. One of my regrets is missing the 1985 show at Alberts Hall (U of T area) which headlined Albert Collins. He had two guests, Stevie Ray Vaughan and a 19 year old Healey. Show is available on Youtube, pretty good stuff. Great place to have some pops and watch some of the best blues anywhere.
