I'd move Nylander, johnsson, kerfoot, andersen and injured Muzzin.

It's doable considering they had like a 2 million dollar fourth line last year. Problem is the 3rd line center with zero cap space...so I don't know how to fix that.

My concern with AP is that he isn't a guy you can rely on to put up points like Rielly so I'm uncertain if we would ever truly see the value of 9 million a year outside of winning the cup.

- Aaron_85

Rielly had one monster year where he broke out and scored 72 points. Otherwise, AP is pretty comparable offense-wise.

Pretty safe to say AP would put up at least 50pts playing on the Leafs. Likely more.

it's not a bad idea. my first instinct would be to say yes to an upgrade of AP over rielly.

tough call though. clearly AP is > rielly.

rielly probably has 7-9 good years in him including 4-5 of his best. he has the potential to finish his career in the top 25 of scoring for dmen in the nhl. AP has 4-5 good years left in him, but he will be on the decline. rielly has his warts, but he also does some things extremely well.

similar circumstance the blues are in; deciding if they should move out they younger parayko to keep AP.

That's all the Leafs need.

I would also add that AP may not start to significantly, appreciably decline until 4-5 seasons have past.

A very good comparable* would be a guy like Ryan Suter who is now 35 and has consistently put up 40-50pts the past 5 seasons while playing 26+ mins a night (this year he was at 24:38). His hits haven't declined nor have his blocks and other relevant numbers.

* AP > RS in almost every respect but I wanted to demonstrate the fallacy of decline past 30 years of age.

I'd prefer OEL over Pietrangelo.

No way Max, OEL has fallen off big time.

Coyotes are (frank)ed.

I think they relocate soon.

Hartford, Quebec, Halifax or Tuffnell SK would give them better support.

He can’t play defence, at all.

This isn’t conjecture.

RS has held up well. I expect a drop in play for him this year.

AP will probably be very good until 36. But his best years are probably behind him.

Minny also may be example of what not to do with signing 2 big name ufa's.

I don't think so, which is exactly what I was trying to demonstrate with the RS comparison.

If Suter hasn't declined yet - and has arguably been playing his best hockey the past 5 years - why do you assume AP's best years are "behind him"?!

Also, Suter's contract (specifically) and his numbers all point to a very solid signing.

Did he find the time machine?? Or is he timeless.

If he becomes a Leaf .. he instantly declines.. not so much from his ability .. but from the standpoint the Leafs are not as defensively sound or structured the way Blues were and are... Leafs don't have a horse like Parayko to soak up tough matchups or minutes, so just by that you have to anticipate a decline in performance.

Jesus (frank)ing christ. Why do I try? The most annoying people on this planet are stupid people who have convinced themselves that they are smart.

You are either purposefully or ignorantly missing Canada Cups entire point, as well as purposefully or ignorantly failing to understand my attempt to explain it to your dumb ass.

- Leafs43

The only person being ignorant here is you. From your first reply to this reply. Canada Cup was wrong. It's that simple. The only thing you have done is proven who the dumb ass actually is.

Congrats on so much effort on a difference without a distinction. I humbly apologize for my wording error as I headed out to walk the dog. The article says he’s looking for a signing bonus in one of the last years of the contract.
- Canada Cup

There is a clear difference between a signing bonus and a performance bonus. To the point where the player being discussed is not even eligible to receive a performance bonus contract.
