Thank you, then why would we be looking to pick up players on LTIR? - Garnie
Something to do with getting an asset thrown in with that contract I believe. |

Seems strange when insurance pays for it, plus it (frank)s up the ability to accrue cap space during the reg season for the Leafs. |

It's frustrating to read this on every blog MiB writes. Though, I'm no expert on the cap and I know it does play a role in cap management, so I'm not 100% sure, but this blog seems to be the only source that continues to reference this more LTIR = more cap space idea. |

Horachek was appointed as an assistant coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs on July 11, 2014, and named him the interim head coach of the team on January 7, 2015, after Randy Carlyle was fired from the position.[4] On January 9, 2015, Horachek was named head coach of Toronto for the remainder of the 2014â15 season. Under his direction, Toronto recorded a 9â28â5 record in 42 games as the team struggled throughout the second half of the season, resulting in a 15th-place finish in the Eastern Conference.[5] Horachek was fired on April 12, 2015, one day after the 2014â15 regular season ended, along with general manager Dave Nonis, assistant coaches Steve Spott and Chris Denis and goaltending coach Rick St. Croix.[6] |

AP is 31.
Letâs not do this.
The Leafs are uncompetitive because Dubas folded with Nylander (shouldâve made him sit) and then folded with Marner (he shouldâve got 9.5). This is hindsight, but Tavares at 11mil also isnât good value.
KDâs philosophy didnât work. I never liked it from the beginning, but I canât really fault him for trying. Now heâs trying to duct tape the holes, and itâs not working. None of the final 4 teams had a player making over 10mil, Leafs have three. Leafs didnât need JT when they already had Kadri who was a great 2C. And they didnât need to trade him, he couldâve played wing/pk/fill in for injuries.
Tyson Barrie is a charlatan. Ask any knowledgeable Avs fan about him, they knew he couldnât defend. Idk on what planet âpuck moving defensemenâ is a blueprint for success, but defenders need to defend, period. Having a good shot helps, but other than that, they should focus on defending.
I think Dubas has been humbled. He came in bright eyed and bushy tailed, now heâs realizing the analytics side doesnât carry much weight. Hockey is a team sport. You have to have players willing to do the dirty work, you canât just hope that your snipers are going to score goals every night. Especially in the playoffs.
Dubas should be sacked. This era is going to go down as the most disappointing era in Leafs history if they donât make some serious changes. If KD tries to bring AP in, Shanny or whoever should block it. - Arctic_AARDVARK

Isn't he sucking in NJ now? Ottawa should hire him, I heard he's cheap. Spatso would be thrilled. |

Talking about New Jersey, I see where Lou Lamerello was named GM of the year.

It's a bs award voted on by other GMs.
If you can name me one move he made this year that would make him deserving of an award, I'm all ears. |

Before nylander's holdout, I suggested leafs should trade him to calgary for tkachuk. The general feedback I got on that suggestion was 'lousy idea, Nylander is much better than tkachuk'. |

Tkachuk is a mean sob, would look good on Mathews wing. |

The reason why I suggest Pietrangelo could be had at 7x7 by leafs is related to structure of the deal, and very importantly - a stlouis contract isn't as secure as a leafs contract. With the chances of several organizations folding next 2 seasons (Florida, Arizona 1st candidates) organizations like rangers, leafs and habs suddenly become even more attractive.
I have no idea what would happen with player's contracts of organizations that would fold, but it's definitely a risk - and st Louis is middle of the pack as for financial health.. |

Fischer is a cheaper, less talented but more physical winger than tkachuk.
Yotes might be willing to move him. |

That"s what I mentioned at that time.
I think Matthews and tkachuk are friends or at least past team mates - having played on same line in juniors.
(Same with Keller btw)
Tkachuk - Matthews - Keller would be a great line |

I don't think AP makes the difference.
And Marner would be the last player I would trade on this Leafs team - even after Matthews |
