Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it recently reported that if JR felt he had a shot at Pietrengalo he'd go after him? - Rinosaur
I didn't hear that but I feel like it's too many moving parts to make that happen and unfortunately it mean Letang and Horny would he gone. However if he can make it Letang and JJ gone that would be much better. I love Letang but obviously he would be the main piece that would have to move out. |

I swear either Rossi or Yohe said something about JR wanting Pietrangelo if he had a shot.

It was the guy on our board that’s buddies with a Pens scout. He said that the only way we trade Letang is if Rutherford is positive we can get Pietrangelo. He’s been right about stuff before, so I don’t know. |

As cool as it is to think about the possibilities of trading Letang and signing Pietrangelo, I just cant see any scenario where that happens. - MacPatty
Agree. I'm sure there would be demand for Letang, but not many teams could add him without sending salary back. For that matter, who actually has the space for Pietrangelo? |

Capfriendly has Maniscalco on the team. Subtract him and we have 6.9M space with 11 forwards, 7 defensemen, and a goalie signed. |

My guesses:
Jarry probably around $3.25/$3.5M
Simon around $900K
Lafferty around $800K
I imagine Angello would be a two-way contract.
Not much left over after that, so either they move someone else out to be on the third line or Simon will be the 3rd line LW. Or it's also possible one of Simon or Lafferty are not retained and their rights are shipped out, so the Pens would have around $2.5M free. |

Perfect World
Letang and Murray to Colorado for Nichukushkin and Prospect/Picks
JJ and Prospect/Pick to ??? for Conditional 7th (ie: Salary Dump)
Sign Pietrangelo 7 years 63 Million (only care abut the next 3-4 Years)
That's 10.5 Million out and about 11 Million in after Nichushkin is signed
Pietrangelo/Nishkushin/ >>> Letang/JJ/Murray(or whatever we'd get for Murray)

I think his market much like Murray's will be determined by who misses out on their free agent target. If we signed Pietrangelo. I see a lot of teams who were in the market for him will turn to Letang as their option. Which I still think it is a dream scenero which would allow us to really shake up the team. I hope it works out/happens |

Should be interesting with the flat cap. Not a lot of contenders with 9ish mil. I say Colorado just signs petro Instead of taking Letang Instead of trade scenario.
Basically I think petro will go where he wants, and whatever team will just make it work like Pitt would have to. |

I thought of Colorado as a good team to sign Pietrangelo because they are the one contender with a lot of space. But even they are said to be cautious with some big extensions down the road including Maker next year.
But I agree to your actual point they could just sign Pietrangelo instead of trade for Letang. I don't even think Letang is a great fit there unless they like the short term. |

I could see Letang actually being a good stop gap with makar killing it already and a few more potential prospects like Bowen coming up this year or next. Having a good elite Stanley cup champ to help mentor could be useful.

Bettman has reiterated the NHL plans to have an 82 game season with regular playoff format next season. I don't see how this will work considering the fact there will basically be no break at some point between two seasons which will really cause fatigue injuries for players. |
