Given his bonus is already paid, and Botterill isn't here anymore, and the mandate to be "leaner" in cash spending, I wonder if Okposo could be bought out.

I don't believe they will save a ton of money doing it now.
I think they are stuck for another season or 2.

I'm also confused as to why we need to upgrade our defense still (sure, always looking to upgrade everywhere). Last I checked, we were top 10 5v5 defense last year. Maybe we should look at putting the puck in the other teams net as where we struggled.

Let's be clear, the Sabres could absolutely use him as a 1RhD.
However, they should not enter into a contract of that magnitude...they will quickly be the Bay Leafs lite.

I much rather find a “Staal like” righty that has a year or two left in him. Hjlmarsson type, even though he won’t waive. Aging vet to pair with Dahlin and throw money at Krug for 2LD...

Dahlin. Vet RD
Krug. Joker.
McCabe. Miller

Yes I know I’m trading Monte AND Risto. Which won’t happen. So Risto is 2 RD. Joker 3RD and you trade monte and miller. Which is against the analytics and lean model. But Ralph doesn’t like Miller and Likes Risto too much even though I highly doubt Risto signs a new deal here and he will want more money. The time to move Risto is last summer, but now it should be now.

It would be a cash move more than a cap move if they did, though they do save on both.

Oo 5M when they need to resign Dahlin and Joki is tough.. Even if you get a guy who's league min, about the same cap hit.

I personally wouldn’t just because we’d be paying some sort of cap charge for another 6 years.

Definitely not impossible though.

I was thinking more of Hutton

You just ride Okposo out. It’ll sound harsh but he’s one concussion away from LTIR and a Hossa, Savard, Horton escape... I wouldn’t worry about him or that deal at all...

That last concussion where he just got brushed on the face was brutal. I have a feeling he's gonna get knocked out cold this year at least once. I honestly can't believe he's still trying to play.

We shouldn't hope for that he was close to ending his life and I still think its dumb he's still playing after all the poop he went through

It is pretty crazy to think he’s still out there. Just LTIR him after the next one and slide him into Adams old harbor center duties. Maybe he will be able to melt ice better than Adams....

Pie would be great. He'd also need to be protected.

Thats the sad/scary part. We all know there will be a next one. My sister got a concussion in a freak accident and she lived in hell for over a year. Two years later and she still has bad days. This guy has had like 6 and is a multimillionaire. I hope for his sake he gets out before something really, really bad happens

True, and more on cash which is the jist of your original al post, so there remains a possibility.
I just think the savings of $2m in cash this year and 1 next year, is offset by the Cap hit down the road. When they should be competing.
If they Buyout now, it is a sign things are rather dire...IMO of course.
