6 years at $4.875M per, and his actual salary the last 3 seasons of his deal is $6.5M per.

No thank you to that.

Sorry, misread that, you are right.

Hornqvist contract also sucks (half the length though) for being a third line player. I'll admit, I stats looked up Matheson, and didn't look terrible was all I was getting at for a defensive first Dman like him. Not that I'm saying I want him, but for Pitt, getting rid of Hornqvist does free up some cap space short term.

His gpg works out to 9 over an 82 game season. I’ll take that all day long for a defenseman especially if he’s more of a “defensive” dman

Matheson can skate like the wind and has some offensive skills. But, he too often makes the silliest decisions/plays. He looked like the real deal when he first came out of college. He’s been kind of a train wreck the last two years. A change of scenery needed for him, IMO. He seems to be his own worst enemy at times.

The penguins are horrible Another bad trade
- GERBE!!!75PTS

I don't think it's that bad a trade for Pitt. Matheson is 26, a former 1st round pick has a good shot, has had a 10 goal year, had 8 goals in 59 games last year so he would have had double digits again and has had years of 27 pts so for a D and younger. Matheson will be paid 3.5 mil a year with a cap hit of 4.8 because his signing bonus of 7 mil was paid. patric hornqvist has a 5.3 mil contract that he signed last year for 5 years and is 33 years old and had 33 pts last year.

Not to start a religious debate, but there is a lot of historical evidence that Jesus the person did exist, claimed to be the Son of God, and was put to death by the Romans at the behest of the Jewish religious hierarchy. Even Roman historians acknowledged this. The debate/belief was always whether Jesus was God as claimed.

Whatever they take less of a cap hit for a 26 year old D who skates well and scores goals in double digits and will no doubt go up a couple with Crosby and Malkin setting him up on the PP. They lose a 33 year old forward who signed a contract for 5.3 mil contract in 2018-19 so I'll wait to see the awful part.

The fact that awful defensemen can get traded constantly yet we still have a million of them, including a bad one that wants to be traded
- sbroads24

Last year it was trade Risto for a number 2 center, now trade him for a 33 year old 5.3 mil RW who scored 33 pts last year and is signed for 5 years.

Whatever?

Matheson's impact on ice is incredibly mediocre the past 2 years, and a Panthers fan just a few posts earlier even called his last 2 seasons a train wreck.

Did I mention Matheson was a healthy scratch multiple times last season, including game 3 against the Islanders?
