I'll admit, I stats looked up Matheson, and didn't look terrible was all I was getting at for a defensive first Dman like him. Not that I'm saying I want him, but for Pitt, getting rid of Hornqvist does free up some cap space short term.

Matheson can skate like the wind and has some offensive skills. But, he too often makes the silliest decisions/plays. He looked like the real deal when he first came out of college. He’s been kind of a train wreck the last two years. A change of scenery needed for him, IMO. He seems to be his own worst enemy at times.

Matheson is 26, a former 1st round pick has a good shot, has had a 10 goal year, had 8 goals in 59 games last year so he would have had double digits again and has had years of 27 pts so for a D and younger. Matheson will be paid 3.5 mil a year with a cap hit of 4.8 because his signing bonus of 7 mil was paid. patric hornqvist has a 5.3 mil contract that he signed last year for 5 years and is 33 years old and had 33 pts last year.
