i don't think he scores enough to be a 3c
- Michael Pachla

Wait. What?!
GD18Pt Larry doesn't put up enough points to be a 3C?
I mean, he already played roughly 13:00 a night EV...roughly 3rd line minutes and put up 18pts
We can....errr, we need to do better.

Find me a guy who put up 35 pts and be defensively reliable....like Bonino, but on the wing.
Marry that guy at 3RW along with Kahun at LW and Cozens at C

Cozens learns the C responsibilities from Jack and Staal, gets the defensive accumen from that RW.
Prosper!

imo, we have our 3C for this year--cozens...with the caveat that they surround him with some quality, veteran wingers (something i really didn't address in my latest roster, *shrugs*)

That's my concern, too. But part of me wonders if that changes if he has actual third-line-caliber wingers (I'm also concerned if the Sabres even have such wingers to offer).

He was on pace for 24 points in 82 games playing with Girgs and Okposo. If he plays with better wingers, does he put up closer 30 points? That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

Nick Bonino, who I think most agree is a capable 3C, scores 25-40 points per season. If Larsson can increase his scoring by 5-10 points with better wingers while still maintaining his very strong defensive play, I think he could be valuable at 3C because his higher goal suppression would offset the lower scoring to a degree. That's a lot of IFs though.

To be clear, I'm mostly playing devil's advocate here because I do not know one way or the other if he can handle as a 3C. But there is some evidence that maybe he could if given a shot. My preference would be for Larsson to serve as an excellent 4C, but I think he'll cost too much for that role without having a 3C and/or 2C on their ELC.

- JetpackJesus

gotcha...it could very well work, but he's always been more of a pest who was counted on to piss off the opponent in a defensive role

I've been saying that for a while myself. They will get another 2-way center who is a PKer too. There will be the short bus people here who will say why not keep Larsson!!! And I just give up.

He's probably worth it. I'd love to see him on the Canucks paired with Hughes.

The LOG line and 1st line were not the Sabres problem. So make fun of Larry and Girgs all you want.

Johansson at 2C sucked
Skinner with Erod Sucked
Sheary was awful
Sobotka pre injury was on the 2nd line Sucked
Frolik sucked

Kahun - I still need to see more. I won’t say he was a problem. I will say he was “fine”

- Sabretooth9

All true except the bold
That 2nd line was actually doing well before Sobatka got hurt

Anton Lundell

This is my bold pick of the top 10. Most people have Anton Lundell just outside of the top 10. However, the Sabres need help at center and I think they value what he brings to the table. His defense is poetry in motion and he has every tool you want to see in a franchise center. There are some questions about his offensive upside, but I believe if the Sabres are smart with him, he might wind up being one of the top five players from this draft.

I'd think the Leafs would have to trade Marner...can't have over half your cap tied in 4 players or 50M in 5 players including Nylander.

Calgary has more room to work with

Vegas has to dump one of MAF or Statsny and it's going to cost them a sweetner. Buffalo takes MAF with Marchessault for a 2nd. That frees up 12M and they can probably still hold a little on MAF.

Michael Pachla: The shock for Eric Staal remains, but he's ready for a role as "shepherd"
- Michael Pachla

I think it was a good trade, but be realistic. The Wild were a better team than tue Sabres last year, yet they had Staal and were still not very good. It was a good trade and wont hurt them at all, but don’t expect this trade to propel them anywhere closer to a playoff team. They are still a long ways off and this fan base is notorious for over valuing its new players over the summers only to realize they are/were dead wrong by seasons end. I get the excitement but ....
