Really? For the first two years sure. The last two years we are looking at a 6M 3C at best. Yuck

They are giving away a future All Star defenseman or forward for A player that's gonna be a free agent.

And giving away a player that can help their young guys until they're ready to compete

Are you really going to die on the Larry>Staal hill?
- jcragcrumple

Staal is infinitely better offensively. Larsson is infinitely better defensively

Were swapping one skill for another.

If you want to ignore what Larsson does, fine. You've been doing it for over a year.

If Gerbe is so inclined, he can post their RAPM's

They are dropping 2 spots.. they could possibly get the same guy pending on who they want and rid themselves of a soon to be albatross contract. Risto playing 19 min a night for them might be better. But I know you hate him so whatever

A deal I could see them doing is Ristolainen for Rakell

They get younger and get the right handed defenseman they have been looking for

And we get another Forward that can put up points and a rw

Hypothetical scenario:

Larsson 4 yrs @ $3 million per year
Lazar 1 year @ $1 million

I'll take the Lazar option 100 out 100 times. In a world where the Sabres have an internal cap of low 70's, spending $3 mill per year on a 4th line centre is not an option. Now, if you can get Larsson for $1.5 - $1.75 million per year, sign me up. Otherwise, we can't afford what Larsson is likely going to get.

Well then did he switch, cause it has him playing LW with Henrique and Silfverberg at RW

Larsson is a 3C. Does that change your sentiment ?

I'm not against having him here by any means, but I don't think any team with him at 3rd line center sniffs a championship. 4th line center, absolutely.

If he could get back to scoring 30 goals It could help us out tremendously

So they'll give up Rakell (3.8M for 2 years), a 55 point RW, for Risto

BUT

They wouldn't give up Henrique (5.4M for 4 years), a 45/50 point C, for Risto - 2 draft spots.

Math doesn't add up...

That said, I'm good with either one.

Fair opinion.

I believe if we have a high end 2C that Larsson can be a dominant shut down line

Better than a replacement level defenseman? Yes.

Better enough to actually be good? Doubtful.

IDK about that. He was playing pretty well for us when we limited his minutes. When he upped to 24/25 a night that's when the brain started going out again.

Lazar does absolutely nothing for this team that moves the needle. He’s a roster filler.

He’s not a replacement for a shut down center in anyway imaginable.

Look, I don’t think we’re doomed without Larsson. What I think though is his ability to eat tough minutes and be on the right side of the goal share isn’t something that should be taken for granted. It’s absolutely going to make a difference when we are sacrificing one of Staal or Eichel’s offense to give him those minutes.

That’s of course unless they actually replace him

He's interesting as his cap hit is $5M for the next 4 seasons, but his actual salary for the next two seasons is $5M per season while his actual salary for his final two seasons is only $3.5M per season.
