I don’t think starting him at 3rw is big time sheltering. If he plays into 3c by week 6 or 8, great. But I’m not planning to start him there. Didn’t Dach start on the wing? So find a 3c that can play wing too. I rather go in over prepared than scrambling to figure something out after the season starts.

Yep. Go into the season finding a multipositional guy. Short term, long term, whatever. When Cozens can fit into the C, get him on in there.
- TheSabresTaco

The above would definitely work, but I'd prefer going all in on a long term solution, specifically Danault.

The caveat, aside from Montreal's willingness to deal him within the division and needing to agree on an extension before the trade like the Sabres did with O'Reilly is the draft and who would be available at pick 8.

If Rossi is available at 8, that would make the need for Danault potentially much less long term.

It would make zero sense to bring back both of Larsson and Girgensons, you could probably sign Clifford and Maroon for what it would take to bring back Girgensons.
- Buff36

Probably a lot easier to sign 2 quality players who’ve been here than to convince 2 guys playing on Playoff Teams to come here

Bad fitz. Do better.

Olo-Eichel-Sam
Skinner -Staal - (Tage)
Kahun - _____ - Cozens
Clifford-Lazar-Okposo
-

Tage isn’t waiver exempt. So it’s lineup, trade or press box.

Olo on the 3rd line with cozens, just poor form. A rookie at center with a 2nd year sniper? That’s silly. Kahun fits better at 3LW. Cozens STARTS at 3rw and gets moved around depending on situation and opponent (2rw, 3c, maybe even some 2c). But he STARTS at 3RW.

Skinner at 2rw. Olo back to 1rw. Ralph won’t put jack with skinner. Not sure why. Makes zero sense. But the soccer czar won’t do it. If he didn’t do it late last year, when Olo was hurt fighting for playoff points in the standings. I doubt he does it this year. And i hope I’m wrong.

Grigs and super Larry are and should be gone. Super Larry wants to test the market and we shouldn’t pay a 4c what he will command. Now, if you want to make the argument that you are slotting him in at 3c?!? Eeehhh. Maybe. But it’s time to move on. Grigs, sorry. Again. Give me Clifford, who’s cheaper and has more jam. The Billy Gurin argument fits here, sometimes it’s time for a change. And some new faces in the room will do this team well.

Find me a 2rw and 3c and we actually have a solid lineup. And maybe Tage hulks out and IS that 2rw. So, 3c is the more pressing need up front.

Well maybe, but Clifford and Maroon are both FA after the season and both there teams don't have much cap room and bigger needs.

The Buffalo Sabres lost them both.

Black Sunday will go down as one of the most demoralizing days in franchise history. Gone in the span of about five hours were co-captains Zemgus Girgensons and Johan Larsson . The popular centers signed contracts to play elsewhere, leaving the Sabres with a vestige of their very soul.

Girgensons accepted a whopping eight-year, $52 million deal with the Philadelphia Flyers about three hours after the free agency period opened at noon. Larsson pondered a little longer, waiting until about 7:30 p.m. before agreeing to a five-year, $35.25 million deal to play for the New York Rangers.

"Looking at it from Buffalo's perspective, I'm sure they're not very happy [Girgensons and Larsson] have left," Rangers General Manager Glen Sather said. "But that's the nature of the beast.

"We have to operate within the rules of the league and to the best of our abilities. I've seen players leave my teams before, and it's a complicated and tricky time. You just have to face the facts you can't always keep everyone."

The Sabres declined to comment. GM Kevyn Adams was expected to meet with reporters today.

"I know it's been a difficult day for Kevyn," Sather said.

Not to mention Sabres fans.

The Sabres apparently weren't even in the running to re-sign their co-captains.

After the duo strongly considered the enticing possibility of staying together to join the Los Angeles Kings, Girgensons narrowed his choices to the Flyers and Montreal Canadiens, who were offering a higher average salary but two fewer years.

Girgensons didn't give the Sabres a chance to match the Flyers' offer. Girgensons revealed that his agent, Pat Brisson, hadn't spoken to Adams since rejecting a five-year, $25 million proposal Thursday.

Girgensons waited nearly six weeks for that initial offer, which was for the same salary he made last season while leading the Presidents' Trophy winners with 95 points and earning All-Star MVP honors

The Flyers finished with a league-low 22 wins. They went into Sunday with $9.6 million of salary cap money to spend and cleared even more room later in the day by sending defenseman Joni Pitkanen, former Sabres forward Geoff Sanderson and their 2008 third-round draft pick to the Edmonton Oilers for captain Jason Smith and forward Joffrey Lupul.

Girgensons's signing, however, was the highlight of the Flyers' offseason.

"I think Zemgus is one of the most exciting players in the game," Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said. "He has creativity, he can score, he is competitive and he can skate. I think that he is a perfect fit for our team and, quite frankly, I think that he would be a perfect fit for a lot teams."

Larsson reportedly considered the Kings, San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche, with whom he won a Stanley Cup, before deciding on the Rangers at the same time they landed coveted forward Scott Gomez.

"We had them ranked the first picks as far as free agents were concerned," Sather said. "We really didn't think we were going to get both of them, but it just worked out that way. The times I've been around you don't get the opportunity to sign two players like this."

Larsson is a two-way force. He finished second on the Sabres last season with 37 goals. He led them with 17 power-play goals, three short-handed goals and a career-high nine winners.

"He's been a winner every place he's been, a hard-working guy," Sather said. "He's been productive on every team he's been on, and a winner in every game he's ever played in. He brings the determination and spunk we need."

The LOG line and 1st line were not the Sabres problem. So make fun of Larry and Girgs all you want.

Johansson at 2C sucked
Skinner with Erod Sucked
Sheary was awful
Sobotka pre injury was on the 2nd line Sucked
Frolik sucked

Kahun - I still need to see more. I won’t say he was a problem. I will say he was “fine”

i dont think many will argue that the LOG line (if it were the 4th line) isn't a problem. the problem comes when they are used as a 3rd line and when you look at the price tag.

having 2 dysfunctional scoring lines is probably the top issue. the defense was fine. 5v5 goalies were fine.
