John Vogl just posted this piece on The Athletic: https://theathletic.com/2...s-new-mission-in-buffalo/ “The No. 1 thing I know that helped for me was watching these guys that have had careers of 15, 16, 17 years and seeing what they do,” he said. “When I came in, I watched Rod Brind’Amour, Cory Stillman, Ray Whitney, Bret Hedican. These guys made 15-, 16-, 17-, 18-, 20-year careers out of their time, and as a young player you watch what they do to try and have that success.
“For me, it’s just being a sounding board. If he’s got questions, it’s about coming to the rink, being a pro and being prepared, having fun, enjoying it, just all those things that I know I’ll do just because that’s who I am. I’ll enjoy just being there with the guys and playing a game. There’s nothing better.”
Aside from him still being a very good hockey player, this is the thing about getting Staal that I really like. And he's going to be able to mentor more than just Mitts and Cozens. Eichel and Sam can learn from him, too.
EDIT: Now that I've read the blog, I see Pachla quoted that part, too. |

The kahun trade might enter that territory - Michael Pachla
We'll see. I mean it's a win already. But how much, tbd
If Botterill were still GM we would have outbid Guerin for Bjustead instead of getting Staal.
Now onto the offseason |

Botterill wasn’t good. I don’t get why you think I want to champion him. He was bad. I didn’t think he was getting fired, and thought some of the criticism was weird, but he was t good.
B. The negativity is clear and to the point. They put a bandaid on a wound for a season. With an aging player who’s clearly not thrilled he was traded.
Some of you are way too easily satisfied, which is exactly what the Pegula’s love. - sbroads24
If this is the only move the Sabres make before next season begins, nobody will be happy with the team. |

For sure.
there's nothing he hasn't done at this level. He's been on good teams, bad teams, been a captain, won every team award there is to win and learned how to be a captain from the Ron Francis and Rod Brind'amour. |

Agreed.

I think the shock is real but the the fact that what he brings to the table in Buffalo is not something we have seen in a long while, is very real as well.
He’s also played 25% more hockey this year than the rest of the Sabres thus far - lulags

From what I can recall they were rushed into that dangerous decision on a push from the White House. I did an editorial on that subject for the school newspaper and the gist of it was that the President Reagan did in fact want the Challenger up in the air for some reason I can't recall . I guess I'll have to look for the piece. Which is buried somewhere - Michael Pachla
I took an organizational psychology course back in college (early 90s) and we spent almost half the semester on the challenger disaster. NASA knew the o rings were a problem from previous launches and they pressured the o ring manufacturer to give them a thumbs up for launch. In a meeting at the manufacturer, the executives asked the engineers to take their engineering hats off and put their management hats on, or something like that. And they gave the ok to launch. By far the most interesting class I ever took.
I will check out that Netflix show. |

there was a decent movie about it last year
The Challenger Disaster
Dean Cain was in it, and he was horrible but from what I heard it was pretty accurate

Gerbe will take Jordan. He wanted Jordan over Eric when this board was discussing Eric as a 2C option a few weeks ago. 36-year-olds are gross, or something. |
