I think it would be foolish to throw money at this year's crop of FA centers, so hopefully it's a trade, but I know that goes against what JR said. What the hell is going on in that head of his? Maybe he's going big with a 3LW, putting Blueger at 3C, and then getting some cheap rando to play 4C.

It would be nice to know if Maniscalco can handle 3RD before JR gets a chance to overpay for that position, because you know he wants to.

JR has been chasing his tail for a 3c since Bones. In fairness, I think Bjug would have been a good player for us if healthy. BUT....Dude can't stay healthy and Rutherford is absolutely correct to not take that risk. 2 year window.... Don't risk one of those years counting on an injury prone player.

I don't know other teams rosters as well as many around here... It would be interesting to see an article on potential 3C trades. I think we'll see more "retention" trades similar to Bjug.

This exactly. Why go out and get an expensive 3C if you're just going to play him with Hornqvist and Simon? Hornqvist is generally not a big ES scorer and we all know about Simon. Even if he's not the 3C, it makes sense to keep McCann if you want that line to be dangerous.

This is why I'm a proponent of moving Tanev to 3rd LW. I know you don't want break up the Blueger line, but they'd have around $3M to prop up the 4th line and leave cap room for Poulin in case he makes the squad. There are some very good 4th line options out there in the UFA market.

Pretty much. If they can’t spend 3.5 on McCann then what are they gonna replace him with. And also unless he has some sneaky trade lined up there is F all available that is better than him. Signing a winger will be much easier. Hoffman and dadanov are ufa. If that’s too pricey I’m sure there is something a bit cheaper out there. A lot better of a chance of an impact winger than a centre is available.

Also JR’s game plans change with the wind. Who knows what he is upto at this point.

Unless I’m not getting updates for some reason, I think lack of words is misleading us.

Real shame that he went overboard on the hookers and blow and his heart gave out. Really brought a certain je ne sais quoi to the board.
