Malkin has been protected behind Crosby his whole career. He isn’t a top line center on most teams today, he isn’t worth that much value in trade ever.
I think a more plausible rumor would be Malkin to Arizona for Oliver EkmanLarsson straight up. - mungozen
Agreed. If Crosby got hurt for a long period of time PIT would be a bottom 5 team with Malkin as 1c. |

Yotes rumors might have more credibility, as they have to initiate some cap savings sooner than most! |

You don’t have a 3rd line center and you trade your 2nd line center without asking one in return?
To Nashville - Malkin and rights to J. Schultz and a 2nd pick
To Pitts - Ellis, Duchene and Ardvisson |

I looked up a few stats.
Crosby and Malkin both played an identical number of shifts per game this year.
Their ice-time is nearly identical, with Crosby getting a tiny amount more, mostly because he fills in on the PK once in awhile. Why is Crosby on the PK? Well he was 55.6% on faceoffs while Malkin was just 50.3%.
In the playoffs, Crosby averaged 20:46 per game while Malkin was 20:43, so 3 seconds less. Malkin got more PP time. He also clearly gets the more skilled wingers. He scored more points per game than Crosby.
So why exactly is he disgruntled Ek? Seems like he gets used like a 1C. He gets better wingers. He's on the #1 PP. He doesn't have to kill penalties. But let's say he ends up in Nashville. He'll get less ice-time as they clearly don't ride their horses like in Pittsburgh. He'll get worse linemates. They might even ask him to start killing some penalties and put more effort into improving at faceoffs. Oh, and he won't have Crosby to shield him from top defensive players. Wow. Sounds like a dream Ek. |

My sources tell me that Malkin wants to be the man.
Also, Nashville wants to pay 24.7M for 3 centers, 2 of which are just spiderman pointing at himself. |

Yep. Needs to be way better than a point per game player. |

Forsberg, Karıya, this will never happen. Malkin and his age & injuries for Ellis, top prospect and a 1st. Put the bong down Ek. |

Ek, why doesn't Pittsburgh just keep Malkin and sign Cody Ceci? During practice Malkin can skate circles around Ceci and feel like a man. Simple.
Also, why doesn't Nashville just get Ovechkin instead? I think that was an E4 once so probably still moving in inches someway shape form. - Kooleus

The Pens would ask for one of the largest ransoms of all time to pry Malkin out of Pittsburgh. He is a great player, but he is on the back 9 of his career. I can't see any scenario where paying that premium is worth the return. Maybe if you're a team like the Caps and on the verge of a lengthy down swing due to an aging core, and you want one more shot at glory. Even then, does an aging perennial powerhouse have the pieces to pull off the trade it and if so, would they be willing to mortgage their future for today. |

I think what people miss is that the Pens don't need to add to their d-core...MAYBE a little upgrade to the 3rd pairing RD if there's room, but the only thing they need to do to improve their defense is remove and we all know who that is.
Trading Geno for an upgrade a defense only creates a larger issue. 2nd line centers don't just grow on trees. They can barely find a 3rd line center. |

To NSH: Malkin + Subban
To NJD: Ellis + PIT 2020 1st rd pick
To PIT: NSH 2020 3rd rd pick
You must be heavily sedated - for a couple of reasons.
1) unless I misread the above, PIT trades Malkin, + their 2020 1st , for NASH 3rd rd pick.
2) PIT doesn't have their 2020 1st rd pick. It went to TOR in the Kapanen trade last month.
GMJR would be burned at the stake for this. |

Yeah, for the Pens it's Geno and their first out, Subban, Ellis and a 3rd in. If the Pens move Geno, there's no logical reasoning on this planet that they should be sending ANY draft picks out, let alone a first. |

While the Flyers and their faithful might be interested in seeing Malkin out of the division, why would Pittsburgh do anything to trade a great center while looking for a third line center? Someone is just trolling Pens fans while secretly hoping it could happen. Objectivity much ?
