Hate to be "that" guy, but the impulsive grammar cop in me got out before I could close the door, so ...

The who/whom test - substitute the word he/him in the sentence to determine when to use who versus whom.

He is better defensively

versus

Him is better defensively

Based on sentence structure, it's not always as simple as this example, but this time it is easy to determine the correct use of who/whom should have been "who".

This PSA has been completed. We now return you to your normally scheduled program.

Thomas Hickey did not play NHL this season. He was a regular 2018-2019 season. Hickey signed a 4 yr contract in July 2018.

This is a player maybe available cheap. I don't know his salary. Experienced veteran. Perhaps a descent third pair if you trade one of your dmen.I do not know why Trotz.went with other guys on defense. Maybe Trotz envisioned each of his dmen playing a certain way, and Hickey lost out? I don't think we can say he lost a step or anything negative. He might be worth a look. Actually what is best to know, is if a team scout saw him last season. Was he in the AHL and or injured. A Bowman type move based upon another prior move this off season?

Most likely in the mix for a position this season:
Keith, Seabrook, Murphy, deHaan, Maatta, Boqvist, Koekkoek, Carlsson, and Mitchell (that's NINE) with injury call ups available in Beaudin and Gilbert.

Why add a journeyman like Hickey to the mix? If he so good how come he cleared waivers at the beginning of last season and spent the year in the AHL?
Even if one or two of the veterans are shipped out there are still plenty of bodies available. Don't need Hickey to take up the ice time a youngster could use to gain needed experience.

is anybody else concerned that stan has not made a move. Buyout window is in 10 days, draft is in less then 3weeks and UFA is in just over 3 weeks. when a team needs to make a few moves and nothing happens it generally ends up badly my guess no one wants Matta with any 25% retention. Craw is holding out for a 2nd year and NMC/NTC which I think you stick with one year. to many damaged goods on this team already cant afford to have a 4th guy start next year on LTIR. The other guys that we could be open to trading. Shaw and Dehaan Seabs no one would take. that really only leaves Keith, Murph or SAAD with any value. those 3 are probably 3 of the top 5 defensive players on a brutal Def team. When ever stan waits till later on in the off season our return is brutal. Ie no return or Negative return. IE sharp for Scudari, Leddy for Pokka, SAAD for AA, AA for smith, versteeg nordstrom and 3rd for a 5th.

Last year Stan got dinged for acting early i.e. traded for Matta when Da Haan was made available. Also don't forget Lehner was a last minute bonus that fell into their lap, if Lehner is not picked up, AA does not have to be traded. Difference between the trades you mentioned above, and this year is Stan does not have to move anyone to get under the cap. Maybe this year Stan can pick up a salary casualty for a "bunch of guys". Shoot, even the Isle's will have a cap problem once Barzall is signed, as they have $11 million in dead weight in the Ladd, Boychuck contracts.

Also, Stan can't think about trades until he knows what the goaltending is going to cost him this year (waiting on Crow).

Wow. Project much? How do you know Stosh is not working on stuff? If you want a date, I predict this Friday about noon. The Cup teams will probably be set by then and everyone will get there work in before the finals.

Stan needs to swoop in and sign Gus as soon as possible! A 3rd round pick for free plus Gus long term, great work Stan!

Second season in a row with a mid-season replacement head coach (Bowness of Dallas) making the Final.
- StLBravesFan

Indeed, although this the Bowness replacement was not due to the prior coach's performance.

I

I know he is working on stuff and the fact that he has not done anything leads me to believe he does not even remotely like what he is being offered and that does not go up as time goes on so I think we are going to be forced to buy out Matta and have $700K dead hit 4 years. that is going to really hurt in year 2-3 when the cap stays the same and goes up only 1mil.

This off season is not like those in the past.
-If you sign early, you probably overpay.
-Likewise if you deal early. There will likely be bargains involving cap strapped and budget teams later in the off season.
-There will be more UFA's available than there is money for them.
