The team that wanted to win more won.

That is exactly why I hate when someone just uses fancy stats to determine whether a player "sucks" or not.

So you agree? Media is controlled by a playbook?

I agree that you took a swipe, just when we were ALL staying away from it, no more no less, but I finished a great Christian series on amazon called the Color of Compromise that starts with the history of North American religion from before there was Revolution. I learned a lot.

on twitter some reported that Krug would not be back with the Boston and that Chicago and redwings have interest. we would have to move someone out that we are not aware of if this happened. IE Keith Murph or SAAD. that is assuimg Matta gives us cap space that we need for this year. if you could get KRUG for 4 years and $5MIL would you move keith?

Krug is gonna get between 6-7 not 5

Sorry for the way I phrased the question, should never have used trump, even if lower case, should of said above all.

I don't think this response had anything to do with your comment. It was a response to the DeBoer press conference comment and then idiot boy bringing up the press and Joe Biden

and I am not so sure at this point Krug is going somewhere in the middle of a rebuild and not a true contender.

Everyone wants them some $, but these players want to win the CUP.

and I think he wants that.

- wiz1901

Well then, Krug is certainly not looking at the present day Hawks.

the problem is what team has the Cash in the bank and the cap space and needs a older d man? 95% of the teams are going to lose money the next couple years and cap space is super tight for all but the really bad teams that are in a rebuild. why would the owner of DET or OTT bring him in on 6.5 X 6 they are not playoff teams either way the next 2-3 years. they are going to lose a ton of money. by the time they are better he will be past his prime and probably over paid.

Montreal has the space. He would look good in the top 4 with Weber, Petry and Chariot.

And the Hawks shouldn't be looking at him. Unless they have deals in place to ship out at least two if not three of the defensemen already on the roster, signing Krug would make a crowded roster that much worse. Yes he is a good player, but that D-corps would be very expensive and only marginally better (on paper).

I don't think Krug is taking a pay cut, he makes $5.25 now. Probably second best UFA defenseman available (behind Pieterangelo.) That being said, I don't think that is what the Hawks need right now, a 29 year old defenseman. We need to get rid of a couple (Matta, deHaan) defernseman that make less, and let the young defenseman get their feet wet (Bovquist, Mitchell, Carlsson).
- LAHawk

Pursuing Krug is not a good idea for the reasons exactly as you laid it out.

1) Chicago can't afford him.
2) He blocks a path for the youngsters.

On the first reason, the Hawks would need to shed a lot more salary to not only afford a high-priced free agent but also re-sign their own RFAs this year and beyond.

Krug has expressed that he wants to be paid and is a big reason why he's likely done in Boston.

As others have alluded to, hopefully he is aware that he may need to temper expectations or he'll have a rude awakening at the altar.

You bring up a good point about the dichotomy he's in between: get paid handsomely but play for a non-contender that may take years to rebuild or get paid less for a team contending now.

There haven't been any contract talks between the #Flames and D Erik Gustafsson. As of now, the 28-year-old is planning on testing the UFA market next month.

And in other news, water is wet.

I will be very interested to see what players like Gus (one dimensional, or just average) end up getting. Do teams even offer contracts? If they do are they just for minimums? Do teams just say screw it and play a rookie with a similar skillset?

Theo, thanks for all you do, much appreciated in these times. Stan signs him for $5M and Lehner for $6M, maybe add Leddy as well... red font.

Brodin re-signs with the Wild for $6M x 7 years starting 2021-22. There is a NMC for at least the first 4 years of the deal.

You bet, Angotti. I'll do what I can to share updates and perspectives especially during the offseason.

Things will ramp up fast in a few weeks with the draft and free agency in early October.

Preview blogs for the draft and free agency starting next week.

I was just going to post the same. I always thought he was kind of underwhelming from speaking with MN fans (when I was traveling for work). I never really paid much attention to him. Is he MN's version of Murphy? Steady defensively with little spark, so you don't really notice him and is underappreciated?

Reporting with @DarrenDreger: Multiple sources say #FlaPanthers expected to soon part ways with assistant coach Mike Kitchen after an alleged physical altercation with Panthers player on the bench this season.

Kitchen opted out of RTP participation.
