Wedgie rant trigger warning:

I'm still quite amazed by the narrative on COVID-19 shut-downs, especially in the US.

Young people are expected to take a huge hit to their financial present and future because it's what is best for society, and more importantly, they can be carriers for the older generations - especially retirees.

OK, fine. Young generation needs to sacrifice.

What's the quid pro quo?

Baby boomers got university educations for a disgusting amount of money less, got housing for a disgusting amount of money less, got plentiful jobs with gold-plated pensions, etc., etc., etc.

And they don't give two craps about the younger generations now. "Raise my taxes to help build housing, lower tuition? Frank that nonsense - I'm retired. These kids today are just lazy!!"

I'm not a Trump supporter. I'm pro-science. I wear a mask.

But damn, if I was 25 years old, just starting out on my career (especially in the States), I'd be damn angry that I was asked to do everything for the older generation, and the older generation was happy to tell me to go frank myself in return.

- Atomic Wedgie

I understand this line of thinking. It's much more complicated than your post indicates. Long term issues to young healthy people especially respiratory and heart issues are an important consideration. Until we have a better understanding, the 25 year olds need to pause their lives, it sucks but it's reality.

Do you have a sign out front that says "Please, no solicitors"?

Because I would imagine you'd get people every day knocking on your door to sell you Amway products.

- Atomic Wedgie

That I had to google "Amway products" should give you a hint.

Everything he does is curated to make you talk about him.

Democracy in America is mostly dead.

You know what’s more important? Climate change. Show me a presidential candidate that’ll put people before profit and maybe I’ll start to believe again. And don’t say Obama, he’s just as bad as anyone on his climate record.

I am a big fan of guaranteed basic income but I don't trust the Liberals (or any Canadian party for that matter) to actually implement it.
- TheMussel

When I was working in provincial government on the poverty reduction strategy, they were very interested in it but kind if chickened out.

Getting there was going to be really complicated mostly as you see how everything interacts with existing supports. The problem is more that the existing system is over complicated and it would take a while to implement anything significantly different and that there was no certainty that the implementation would survive the possible transfer of government.

I confess I had to google it - but it led me to this delightful website:

If you are thinking of buying a private island, this seems like a good place to start.

I strongly recommend you visiting one of these 2 bad mother(frank)ers:

Are there any with four square yards, in the middle of a raging river, cause that's about what I could afford.

Agreed. And frankly if the government can't get to a point where people don't need to submit tax returns, then they really have no business trying to dole out UBI

Its on old boys club, so dont really care. Also, by those numbers(which are very jaded without knowing the full picture) 13 other GMs also didnt receive any votes. Who are those GMs?

Lou just won GM of the year, Dubas has 43 more years to catch him ..if he wants to win GM of the year by age 77

Also, Lou wasnt a GM until he was 45...so still a dozen years to go for Dubas before his career starts

And can't get over the bumhole who voted a first place for Matthews for the Selke.

We don't have to pretend Dubas has deserved votes to date though. I think he has done well on trades, very poorly on contracts, and seems to be doing well on drafting (Way too early to say definitively)

What he does this year is going to make or break him as far as I am concerned.

Makes you think Simmons is an idiot and the only way any award that’s voted by the writers will never go to a leaf, unless it’s such a no brainer they have no choice. Like Matthews and the Calder

I will say that there are people with not much time left losing time with friends/family/travelling because of Covid.

But ya, pensioners have always been a political force and basically never have to make sacrifices. The wealthy pensioners tend to hide behind the not wealthy pensioners and act like they all struggle the same.
