Not the biggest fan of a basic income, but Liberals are really pushing it.

That's what I heard a while back on the SportsNet podcasts. I think Freidman was saying the same thing. Pietrangelo wasn't happy that his contract was dealt with last, wasn't happy with Armstrong's $81.5/23 comments and a host of other things
- PatC80

Yeah, I remember that. More people saying it makes it more likely to be accurate, though.

I am a big fan of guaranteed basic income but I don't trust the Liberals (or any Canadian party for that matter) to actually implement it.

We will see.

He has a young family and a wife from St. Louis. I think he really wants to stay there but has to pretend he is willing to leave to get the most out of the deal.

My guess is he eventually signs a very team friendly deal in St. Louis. But as always, I'm hoping he somehow finds his way to TO.

- Leafs43

I doubt he goes anywhere but St Louis, but if he gets to the point of listening to offers, I would think the elastic band will be coming off the roll of bills for the Leafs and a few other teams.

- winsix

I agree that the likely scenario is him re-signing in St. Louis.

Still, I'm hopeful that he might not and instead go to free agency. And I'd hope very much that the Leafs would be all over him if he does.

The arguments for and against do usually start with one of the following maxims:

- People only care about money
- People don't only care about money

It is interesting. There are clauses you can pit into it to encourage people to work with that basic income as well.

I'm not the biggest fan, but I hate the typical, "People are lazy don't want to work" arguments.

I like reading about the experiment in Finland and the interviews with peoples' thoughts on it there.

Ontario was going to have an experiment, but Ford put the axe to it.

Lots of people aren't lazy. Lots of people just hate soul crushing work.

I agree.. Most people are not lazy and are actively looking for work, but it is hard to find.

It's amazing how much you boost people's confidence with a little extra money. If it makes life easier a lot of social issues will go away.

Many European countries have it right. We need to get as far away from the U.S way of doing things as we can. The crime rates of people in the "Happiest" of countries are so low.

If you can tie-in this income with employment, you're onto something.

This fall is going to be bad everywhere. Some schools will be closed. Office workers really should still work from home. People waking up with a sore throat will need to be off 2 weeks.
- RogerRoeper

Our entire house had various symptoms starting last Wednesday. Friday morning, each one of us did the Ontario self-assessment test (online) - it recommended we all go for testing.

Results took less than 24 hours - all negative.

You don't need to be off 2 weeks - go get tested, then remain home until 24 hours after your symptoms go away (assuming you get back a negative test).

And for those wondering, it didn't hurt, but it was uncomfortable. Felt like getting water up your nose - that feeling lasted about 10-15 minutes.

I really struggled to find what I wanted. The courses I took in college are things I thought was good for me, but chances of employment were so low.

I do recruiting for a large organization thats till has that 14 days off even if the test is negative.

I'm so glad testing is quick now. I did mine in March due to me travelling from the U.S and it took 9 days for the results. 11 for my wife.

I don't really regret my path until now, did well in high school, got a degree, good paying job in tech.

But lately I've been exploring going back to school for a trade, just for the satisfaction factor.

It's so easy to go to school now. I always take courses to get better.

I went to film school and broadcasting school. Not good.

I do find it interesting that people from my generation in high school looked down on trade jobs and as a result, so many did not go in that could have had a great career. There's nothing better right now.
