yes because it's a great idea everyone gets the same house at double the price?
And families have to depend on social tax breaks for childcare / daycare or other ways, because they cannot reduce their working hours in order to combine with having a family?
Never said a woman should stop working - I said the mortgage should not be based on two (full, adding that here for clarification) salaries

- MaximusAurelius

So the financial system should be based upon your antiqued views that a woman working destroys the family?

OK.

In theory this would be a good way to limit demand in Toronto and prevent people from taking on crippling debt.

In reality it just opens the door for property management companies to buy up all of the property and turn it into high priced rentals because their ability to buy would be that much greater.

And it punishes working families, and those who didn't inherit vast sums of money.

In short, it's an idea that I would expect from Max.

The article was dogpoop.

What made it worse was when it was proven that Simmons was wrong, he refused to apologize.

'Cause hes a sack of poop. Said he's a "columnist not a journalist".

Should've been poopcanned many years ago.

It would not punish working families, it would give them more financial bandwidth

Last part is true to some extent. But it would be much more attractive to buy than rent for families, so rentals would not be able to go up as in current market circumstances

My grandfather was a carpenter - he built his house in Riverdale (where my parents grew up).

Here's my dad's favourite story:

When they were building "New City Hall" my grandfather cut a deal with the cement truck guys. Whenever a truck's ement was deemed not high enough quality, instead of it going to be dumped at the Leslie Street Spit, it was diverted to my grandfather's house - where he laid a cement driveway that my dad described as "at least a foot deep."

My dad always laughed about how some yuppie probably bought the house, decided to upgrade the driveway to interlocking stone, and ended up spending $1 million just to get all the concrete excavated.

Damn, I may have to take a little drive and see the driveway. I don't think I've seen the house in 45 years.

Great story... The very definition of barter system / capitalism at its best.. Saving guys on dump fees by helping your family.. tremendous... By the way that still happens all over the world today..

The best way off to make 1mln is if your family can help you oUt with a start investment for your own business / independent ideas.
Of course not a lot of families of kids with brilliant ideas and minds are not in a position to do so, since they are putting big part of 2 salaries in their mortgage.
It is actually that system that plays the 'old wealth' families to their cards by keeping the rest out of the ability to save and invest

Yup. I think they got it for 500k in 1992. They had a lot of reno's over the years though, so they've poured over 200k in it since they bought it. Nice chunk of retirement change though.

yup. that's the real issue. keeping it dead is the one issue that there is probably +98% agreement on from 'elected' democrats and republicans; and anyone with deep financial ties to the parties.

the below is the story that should be blowing up. but nobody seems to care that democracy is dead.

"you cannot be elected president of the United States without CNN."

~Jeff Zucker

- Tumbleweed

From this morning (forgot I had written this out)

Bill Barr, Attorney General of the United States, talking about mail in ballots

"There's no more secret vote, there's no secret vote," Barr said. "Your name is associated with a particular ballot. The government and the people involved can find out and know how you voted. And it opens up the door to coercion."

Last I checked Zucker doesn't hold an official position in any government. Sounds like a guy hyping his network and not the chief law enforcement person in the country lying to the public about the political process in order to directly benefit one party over another.
