But when has there ever been 25 year olds on a list like that? I believe that young people have it hard right now. But if you want to talk hard I think the people who grew up in the Great Depression era win that award.

I dont think he hates everything Leafs, he loved Mark hunter...and Lou
he seems to just really love old school hockey men...they are great, new fancy outsiders are gross and icky

- senstroll

It's funny - with all the over-rated leafs of the past 50 years, Mark Hunter soars above all.

His drafts were an absolute failure, beyond his high 1st rounders, that my dog could have picked.

This.

And if it wasn't for Covid holding the Cap, he would've been overpaid for maybe another year.

Some deals look ugly at first, like Drysaddle's looked bad at first but now looks great.

I ended up with -9% in Grade 10 French. I still wonder what I could have made with my life if I had applied myself and reached -5 or even zero.'

They checked homework which I never did and deducted marks for not doing. I think it was mathematically impossible for me to pass by Christmas.

But this fits Wedgie;'s generational unfairness rant. I never finished high school, was able to get into University (not even as an adult learner) taking two courses and allowed to come back and finish if I had a B average.

Transferred schools no problem, got into a good US Masters program, worked in the States doing consulting(first wife was American) and fell into good jobs back here. Obviously, earned a good chunk of that but also obviously faced an educational and labour market totally unlike what kids face now.l

- Canada Cup

The frustrating thing is we all know what we have to do - the plan is there - it's just that governments are too chicken-poop to roll it out:

Steve Simmons has an obvious hate for all things Leafs, especially noticeable after the heat he got for the Matthews thing.

He is starting to look really unprofessional.

Michael Palin: Ahh.. Very passable, this, very passable.

Graham Chapman: Nothing like a good glass of Chateau de Chassilier wine, ay Gessiah?

Terry Jones: You're right there Obediah.

Eric Idle: Who'd a thought thirty years ago we'd all be sittin' here drinking Chateau de Chassilier wine?

MP: Aye. In them days, we'd a' been glad to have the price of a cup o' tea.

GC: A cup ' COLD tea.

EI: Without milk or sugar.

TJ: OR tea!

MP: In a filthy, cracked cup.

EI: We never used to have a cup. We used to have to drink out of a rolled up newspaper.

GC: The best WE could manage was to suck on a piece of damp cloth.

TJ: But you know, we were happy in those days, though we were poor.

MP: Aye. BECAUSE we were poor. My old Dad used to say to me, 'Money doesn't buy you happiness.'

EI: 'E was right. I was happier then and I had NOTHIN'. We used to live in this tiiiny old house, with greaaaaat big holes in the roof.

GC: House? You were lucky to have a HOUSE! We used to live in one room, all hundred and twenty-six of us, no furniture. Half the floor was missing; we were all huddled together in one corner for fear of FALLING!

TJ: You were lucky to have a ROOM! *We* used to have to live in a corridor!

MP: Ohhhh we used to DREAM of livin' in a corridor! Woulda' been a palace to us. We used to live in an old water tank on a rubbish tip. We got woken up every morning by having a load of rotting fish dumped all over us! House!? Hmph.

EI: Well when I say 'house' it was only a hole in the ground covered by a piece of tarpolin, but it was a house to US.

GC: We were evicted from *our* hole in the ground; we had to go and live in a lake!

TJ: You were lucky to have a LAKE! There were a hundred and sixty of us living in a small shoebox in the middle of the road.

MP: Cardboard box?

TJ: Aye.

MP: You were lucky. We lived for three months in a brown paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six o'clock in the morning, clean the bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down mill for fourteen hours a day week in-week out. When we got home, our Dad would thrash us to sleep with his belt!

GC: Luxury. We used to have to get out of the lake at three o'clock in the morning, clean the lake, eat a handful of hot gravel, go to work at the mill every day for tuppence a month, come home, and Dad would beat us around the head and neck with a broken bottle, if we were LUCKY!

TJ: Well we had it tough. We used to have to get up out of the shoebox at twelve o'clock at night, and LICK the road clean with our tongues. We had half a handful of freezing cold gravel, worked twenty-four hours a day at the mill for fourpence every six years, and when we got home, our Dad would slice us in two with a bread knife.

EI: Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, (pause for laughter), drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us, and dance about on our graves singing 'Hallelujah.'

MP: But you try and tell the young people today that... and they won't believe ya'.

ALL: Nope, nope..

Most seniors that I know are just getting by. It’s probably different in Ontario where people are sitting on a fortune from home ownership.
I graduated in the mid seventies and faced double digit unemployment, 18 percent mortgage rates, and so many boomers looking for work that if you didn’t have connections you were screwed.

- shack67

I put this in the same category as the Berlin Wall:

Things that I know I won't really be able to explain to my kids. They'll think I'm remembering history wrong.

We bought our first house in Roncesvalles area in around 1990 or so, 11% interest and sold just before prices took off to mover to Burlington.

What is the housing market in Canada / ontario doing this year?
Sure gov't doesn't want the inflated market to collapse in order to save banks.. Obviously a -25/-35% correction would be warranted, but cannot have the sheep overpaying for houses suffering and voting gov't out..

Rantanen is also one of the best wingers in the league. He signed for significantly less.

And sure, I would overpay Marner before I would overpay lesser players. But the ideal situation is to not overpay at all.

Timing is everything isn’t it? We were just getting by most of our lives. Then in 2003 we sold everything and moved to Edmonton. We bought a new house 05 and sold it two years later and pocketed $250,000.

Raantanen has never scored 95 points in the NHL.

Raantanen may have took a but less, that's on him.

I cant blame Marner for wanting the most he can but I wish he took less, he would of had less pressure from fans.

At the end of the day I'll take Marner's contract all day, overpaid or not.

Any market where people take mortgages based on 2 salaries, prices are inflated.
(There was a discussion before on quality of life, working pressure etc - a simple measure would be to only permit mortgages based on 1 salary; better for parents, better for kids, better for family as a whole - only worse for banks, governments (taxes) and developers, obviously

We were really hurting when we bought that house. Second marriage but first house for both of us and as bad as it was, it would have been even harder later. Yard was pole shaped, 9 feet across at the back, just barely enough room to get car into cars port. Moved out to double lot on ravine to house where we didn't have nearly enough furniture.

Still miss Toronto though (in non pandemic times)
