Andersson has me gun shy - mdw7413
Well he was also only 18
Some of these young Europeans have come over and thrived without AHL time. Like Heskainen and Pettersson |

True. I guess we will see. It will be the only later 1st round pick I have ever been right on |

Domi for ADA makes sense, fills the need for both teams. I might be ok with something like that but beyond that I don’t want a bunch of picks for a proven RHD. |

Something to consider with ADA is that suspicious post he made about playing on the left side. I know traditionally rightys stay right, leftys stay left however considering hes not the greatest defensively anyway, you can try pairing him with Trouba who can potentially make up for ADAs faults. |

Taking away Tony D’s ability to get the puck out by using the boards and a who knows how good his great home run passes would be if he was on the left side of the ice on his off hand.
I think I’d rather Tony D not be the guy to switch to left side if that’s what it comes down to. |

Would you trade him for a LD of similar age and skill?
i.e. ADA for Sergachev
They have a similar problem as we do on D, Sergachev is essentially their third pairing LD because of Hedman and McDonagh, but dont have anyone on the right side. |

Id absolutely do that, but I have a feeling CGY isnt in the market to trade their top center. Youll see Gaudreau and Bennett move before Monahan. |

Tampa won’t be able to keep Sergachev because of how much money he will command. Giving Tony D his next contract doesn’t solve their problem. |

If they really want to keep ADA and strengthen the center position: trade # 1 for LA's #2 and Alex Turcotte and select Byfield with #2. You have 2 cost controlled centers!
Actually this may be all smoke and mirrors to to distract you from the elephant in the room: King Henrik. They want to appear to do everything possible to honor the King, when knowing they will have to buy him out or trade him! - HenryHockey
The Kings won't trade Turcotte to move up to #1. The gap between Lafreniere & Byfield isn't worth that much. They'd consider Kupari, but not Vilardi or Turcotte. |

I realize that the Kings wouldn’t do that, but I personally would only accept one possible trade for the #1 overall pick and that’s the #2 and Turcotte |

Until they trade Stammers. He is never around when it counts and someone will want him. I think moving him is their best option.
How do you compare a 0.78ppg D in the NHL with someone in the SHL???? Thats a big jump. If you can flip Trouba for a LD, it would be a much better situation. Keep ADA, and ride out the final year of Smith/Staal. |
|
|

Obviously they don't see ADA here long term so the race is on to try and trade him off a career year. Just ADA alone won't fetch that much and its obvious. The articles would be very different if the market was hot. ADA plus Kravtsov and a 1st would heat things up for a rebuilding team like San Jose (Tomas Hertel????) or someone who I'd love to get, Dylan Larkin who I see as the Mika Zibanejad of a few years ago but thats more of a pipe dream. Point is, teams seem to think there is something up with ADA. 5th in NHL in points as a D man and their team isn't keen on locking him up long term? Thats a red flag on its own.

I complete dismiss suggestions to trade guys with NMCs. |

My biggest problem with trading ADA to make room for a guy that’s never played a single game in North America is what if Nils just doesn’t work out? What if he’s average? What if he’s just not good? We’re talking about trading a 65 pt RHD that’s 24 years old to make room for a kid that we’re acting like is the next coming of Lidstrom. Not saying Nils won’t be good, not saying he won’t possibly be great, but how many “can’t miss” or “the next so and so” are out there that turn into just ok NHL players. |

It was never expected the cap was going to be 81 million. It was going to go up to 88. And then well over 90.
Now due to circumstances nobody could have imagined, they are actually gonna be lucky if it stays at 81 million for a few years.
They have to be really smart with giving out big contracts, and giving one to a 3rd pairing RHD when they have more important areas of need just doesn’t seem like a smart business decision. |

The cap situation is making things very difficult.
I never was for signing "offensive defensemen" to big contracts. Their job is to prevent goals, not take unrealistic and unnecessary chances to provide scoring. The league values points from the blue line but a true offensive defensemen in the vein of Leetch, who can play his position well, be responsible and not a liability in his own end AND put up points???? Thats what you pay for. ADA is not this so I'd let him walk. I agree 100% that handing out a big contract to him isn't the best idea right now.
RE Nils, who cares, he can't be counted on to do anything. It shouldn't play into their decision. Right now, 5-6m for ADA is too much for the current cap and team construction.

I mean you can't be like who cares when it comes to Nils
next June it will be 3 years since they used a first rounder on him, so we are talking at this very moment next year, hopefully Nils is getting ready for his first Rangers training camp
when you use a first rounder on someone they have to get a chance, especially once they turn 21
