I don't see why would anybody at this stage correlate ADA and Lundquist Jr at this stage.....

I think the point is, if DeAngelo is signed long term, considering that also have Trouba signed long term and Adam Fox is just all around better than Tony D, where does Lundkvist fit when he comes over?

Could have sworn I said incentive.

what if Tony D is being completely unreasonable in his contract demands and wants a NMC, you still willing to give him anything he wants?

you can't just ignore the fact that Trouba is signed for the next 6 years and most likely Fox will be a 5 million a year player come summer of 2022
you can't just ignore these things

If Fox continues the development trajectory he is on I don't think he's a 5 million a year player summer 2022... good chance he costs 7+ million. Don't be greedy he gave the Rangers 1 gift already (his acquisition costs after telling the league he wanted to be a Ranger).

Maybe but show me the recent defensemen who went from entry level money to immediately making 7 million a year

I would take Smith off your hands to be DETs 3LD for a season if you threw in an incentive.

Well watch what happens with Cale Makar this summer and Quinn Hughes next summer as your indicators. After those 2 its probably Fox in the pecking order.

I want to like this idea but Anderssons lack of ahl success makes me feel he’s an absolute bust.

You're buying low on a prospect that needs ice time. He fits right into your rebuild.

If they really want to keep ADA and strengthen the center position: trade # 1 for LA's #2 and Alex Turcotte and select Byfield with #2. You have 2 cost controlled centers!

Actually this may be all smoke and mirrors to to distract you from the elephant in the room: King Henrik. They want to appear to do everything possible to honor the King, when knowing they will have to buy him out or trade him!

Because LA has cap space, there should be a little more to this deal! Add Brendan Smith and an RFA NYR needs to sign to a raise, probably LeMeiux. That clears over $6M cap space, too! Enough to sign Tony!

Only way they move on from Tony is if his contract demands are ridiculous.

Barring that, Brooks is a (frank)ing moron if they are planning on an unproven Lundkvist after next year.

I get that. Andersson is just to a point where I don’t know if the upside is worth a second especially if I’m taking on Smiths contract

I think they’d trade Tony D for the right deal. It’s mainly because Trouba and Fox can absolutely can be counted on to be the top two RHD on the team for the next 6 years at least.

Trouba can fill in the power play time that Tony D had last year if Tony is gone.

Thats an awful lot of minutes for Trouba every game.

I would like to see either a 2 year deal with Tony, or longer term and low AAV.

I want to see if Tony can repeat this years play, and same for Fox. Plus will give a little time to see if Lundkvist is something.

Only way I move on from Tony is ridiculous contract demand, or a no lose trade.

Yeah. I absolutely am in favor of the no lose trade if it’s out there.

Definitely not talking about a couple of second round picks.

It all depends on his contract asking price and what value the Rangers are offered in a trade. I am not giving away ADA but I am surely going to listen

Yes. That’s the reasonable way to look at it.

I keep reading that Nils Lundqvist is it not the best one of the best offensive d men outside of the nhl right now. I really think the rangers are high on him and are not going to block his path after this season

The Rangers actions will show whether or not they believe he can come in right away and excel. Adam Fox didn’t need any AHL time and I have a feeling Lundkvist isn’t going to either

Simply can't afford to have Trouba, ADA, and Fox and have Lindqvist too. Someone has to go, unless Staal and Smiths salary is moved and ADA play LHD

That was the pick I wanted in that draft in the late 1st, but I think he will need a year in the AHL to adjust. So you are probably looking at least 2 years out. Why I wouldn't mind a 2 year deal for Tony. If Tony repeats his success and Lundkvist isn't working out, you pay him after that 2 years. If Lundkvist is the real deal, you move on in 2 years. Gives the club some options and wiggle room.

I think a very strong argument can be made though that the league and role Lundkvist will get this coming year in the SHL is better than the AHL. adjustment to North American rink is only thing that may give him 40 AHL games at most.

Fox was playing on North American sized rinks, Lundkvist is on the bigger European ice. I think Nils will definitely need ( and should be given ) time in the AHL to get used to the different game here: much more physical and less room to operate makes the game seem faster. No need to rush him...

You could also make the argument that on Lundkvist’s entry level deal may be the best time to have him with the Rangers. Those years when these guys make 875k are gold.
