Are you comparing 27 year old Joel Edmundson to 33 year old Justin Braun?
- MBFlyerfan

Only on the basis that they are both impending UFA defensemen.

OK, but I made sure I mentioned "aging" in my original comment. Hence why I seriously doubt anyone would offer up a draft pick to early negotiate with Justin Braun.

Yeah let’s take the guy who couldn’t beat Minshew and Tribusky out for a job.

Well, to be fair, both those teams are going to give their prize high draft pick future franchise QB's every opportunity to play.

You start Nick Foles in front of either of them in week one you are basically telling them we are giving up on you.

The Sixers are the biggest frauds of them all. Ugh.
- hereticpride

Don't worry, they are going to hire Mike d"antoni and his championship pedigree.
His teams play great defense.

How's this process working out?

I’m just tired of hearing about Nick Foles. He’s gone. Whether you liked the move or not, it’s 3rd year without him. Move on. I know He went off late yesterday, but The Bears are pretty much forced to play Mitch with their idiotic choice of him over Watson and Mahomes lol.

With the personal the sixers have he isnt a fit at all. Look at the high draft picks they pissed away: fultz, noel, okafor, smith. That is an utter disgrace. Nothing to for it at all.

The owners are horrible as they let the NBA fire Hinkie and bring in that stiff Colanagelo.

Don't forget Ben Simmons he's a bust too. In this NBA if you can't shoot you ain't worth a damn.

I agree there. Calling for Nick Foles is silly.

And Pornstache Trubisky is definitely not living up to expectations.

But all the pre-draft rankings had Trubisky rated higher than Mahomes and Watson
Hindsight right? Can't pass up the top ranked guy can you?

If it was idiotic by the Bears how dumb are the Flyers for drafting Patrick of Pettersson?

You did say "aging" yes (other guy didn't), so you're correct. I do think the Flyers traded for Streit's rights (who was over 30 at the time) and both the Flyers and Pens traded for Hamhuis' rights (forget what age he was).

Odds are you'd be lucky to get even a 7th for him, but it COULD happen...just not likely.

mmm...possible.

Although my guess is that Hagg will be their selection, there is always a chance that JvR is taken by Seattle to help reach the cap floor.

How much are you willing to give to pursuade Seattle that he is right for them? You could get out of the deal completely at that point.

So how much is worth it, and where is the line?

- Hesh_

assuming the roster remains the same Seattle will have Hagg, Ghost, JVR (I would think), NAK, 72 hr negotiation rights to Raffl and Laughton (i do believe if they sign a UFA that counts as a selected player), and young kids like Rubstov, Bunnaman, Twarnyski, Kase and friedman.

out of all of those players I think I would target Ghost if I was Seattle betting on a change of scenery helping him out. Laughton would be my second choice

Man, can't believe the Flyers drafted Jason Beckett over Pavel Datsyuk. What a dumb move.

I can’t remember rankings but I do know Bears GM was head over heels for Mitch (kinda like a Chipp Kelly with Mariota). True about hindsight. I guess this incident is blown up more since the Bears traded up as well lol.

If they end up with a late first due to a playoff run/good regular season (outside of top-20), I'd give it to them to take JvR.

How bout Greg Johnson and Patrick Juhlin over Nicklas Lidstrom? Solid right?
That is why the Wings won 4 Cups in those years, and the Flyers are sitting on a 45 year Cup drought.

I agree. This notion you can't question a draft choice based on so called expert rankings is garbage. Scouts/Executives get paid to do a job, and when they miss they are fair game for criticism just as coaches and players are.

I would consider that if it meant keeping a player i didn't want to lose as well as move a contract.

I get what you are saying. My line of reasoning is that with the flat cap, teams are going to be holding on to picks. And it seems, especially for 33 year old UFA defenseman, its going to be a buyers market.

if you are talking about a first/second round pick i can see that. Football beyond those rounds because its more expected players to make some impact. but sometimes you just never expect a player to end up what they are. look at Brady. BTW disclaimer, i read the first page and didn't read anything else until this page so I am not 100% sure of the context of this discussion

Looking back at past drafts with information that wasn't available at the time of the draft and criticizing picks based on that is the epitome of stupidity.

Arguing Andrew MacDonald is an "absolute second pairing defenseman" for years is the epitome of stupidity.
