Looking at what the Pens/Wild trade shows about what it’s going to take to drop salary, JVR is more or less unmovable.
There is no guarantee Seattle takes him. He either rides out the contract or we’d have to take a bad contract back to trade him.
With Fletcher looking for defensive depth...what about PK Subban (with NJ holding 2 mil of salary)?
He was rumored to be a possible move per The Athletic.
It seems crazy but hear it out:
Subban had a terrible year but never really jelled with NJ. He isn’t a top pair dman, but is a RD vet that can move the puck and has playoff experience. We lose one year of JVR’s cap hit in the deal.
Ghost had his “big year” the same year Subban was up for the Norris. PK’s had a couple down years (last year being BAD) but he was one of the top dmen in the league steady for half a decade before his last big season. Not saying they are the same type of player, but look at what happened to Weber. After a couple injuries I thought that dude was DONE. He’s bounced back.
Getting Subban for your third pair/power play at a wash $ wise for a third liner PP specialist (and dropping a year of cap hit)? - Wingdestroyer
JVR is still productive. 40 points in what 65 games? Not like he is a slug. Will he be hard to move, maybe. Not impossible. Still a very capable nhl player.
Also they are not removing ivan from the top pp imo. I dont like him on the top pp though he aitn vacating that spot. |

I don't think they can, but you never know. - bmeltzer
figured maybe a team bites on braun.
Any inside thoughts on what becomes of Braun? Do you see him back? |

Pretty sure the 1st place vote JVR got was a Flyers writer... Bill? |

Dallas just seems to surprise every round. I thought AVs would end their run. Nope. Thought Vegas would get early lead in series. Nope. - arichardson22
Injuries killed the AVs I thought but yeah, Dallas has really come out of nowhere. Of the teams left I’d much rather see them win it than anybody else. |

You know, I have been really anti-negotiations on the expansion draft...Saying you lose a good player either way why give them more. However, with the flat cap some teams will change on that I think. For instance, if the Flyers sent a couple prospects where we are deepest to get Seattle to take a higher salary player. That is probably my cut off as I really don’t like the idea but...cap space is at a premium. - NC Flyers Fan
I get your point on the negotiating, but how much value a player has to a team is tied to what he makes. There is an equation that ranks players by how much each goal or assist costs a team. (think moneyball) I'd let JVR walk for nothing at his current salary, but not at 3 mil per year... So to give a little up to lose a very expensive (per goal scored) player is the smart move. |

I doubt they keep Braun unless he takes a cheap one year, and chances are at his age/history, a team is going to be a bigger player than we can/will offer. Too many youngsters up and coming with a shot, He did his job here but hes' likely a cap causality here, although with that said I would not be surprised to see them try for a Vet "D" again so we're not sitting on all youngsters and Nisky.

I can’t, cap friendly had him at 3.8 mil last season. For what we have internally (Zamula, Friedman 7th D). Money wise it makes no sense to keep him in a flat cap. From a hockey aspect though the vet presence on the blue line is always a plus. He was a decent asset this season but looked like he lost a step post season. But the question is when does his cost outweigh keeping him? They still have to sign patty, Myers, hopefully Pitlick and moose just to name some. |

In the market though who would be worth a shot at, Shattenkirk? |

he will be to pricey and if he was smart he stays in tampa eve if it is less money. He fit in very well there on that team |

No way they have to dish out all the money now to Luke Schenn 😂. Tanev too would be a nice add as a RHD. |

Oh yeah, he’s totally a capable player! At the position he’s playing at, tho (3rd liner) it’s not a good cap fit in these trying times.
You’re gonna have to take a bad fit back if they try to move him....him being sit during the playoffs, for whatever reason, shows a bit into what AV’s opinion of where he fits into the team lies. |

you may have to take back a "lesser" player who just may be a better fit for the team.
Maybe an overpaid 4th liner as an example.
If the person your acquiring is also a bad fit then makes no sens to me unless less money and term. |

another example of a player who is better off staying put for less money imo. He has played well and another team may bite and give him more money than Tampa.
I think Tampa will look at guys coming off down years like shattenkirk last year and try to sign on the cheap. Assuming those 2 decide to walk for more money. |

Oh, totally. In my example of Subban (having NJ keep 2 million) it would be equal money for a right handed replacement for Braun. The salary would wash but one less year of term.
We’re aligned on what JvR SHOULD be moved for, if he is. |

I cant see any team giving up an asset for the right to negotiate early with an aging UFA defenseman.

It's not like someone has to give up a pick for him before he hits the market cause there isn't going to be much of a market for him. Teams only do this for a coveted player and Braun isn't that.

Judging by Fletcher's comments, if anyone is counting on Patrick being a regular you are out of your mind. He hasn't played a game in 16 months and he hasn't even been cleared for contact yet.
I'm not saying his career is over, but Fletcher has to proceed as if he's not an option, then if he is it's a good problem to have. |

If he can play, I think he comes in and works himself into game shape by next playoffs. Might not get to where he was until 2022 season but I think he CONTRIBUTES this coming season. |
