Oleksiak and Comeau with 4 goals apiece so far in the playoffs. Oleksiak with a breakaway goal last night.

Crazy that we had the one guy who could ragdoll Wilson and Sully didn't want to play him (after we gave up a lot to get him). Then we get Oleksiak, who is a good 3LD, and we send him out to get beat up by Wilson. Then he's traded away shortly thereafter and he who shall not be named replaces him. Such a silly meandering path of nonsense.

When I started reading that, I thought it was going to be about Gudbranson.

Yeah there’s no way almost 7m in cap could get a more impactful player
- Feds91Stammer

The point of the blog was to erase payroll not replace it with something else.

Nah. No 4th line player is worth 3.5m
- Feds91Stammer

He’s really s third liner if you look at his minutes. It doesn’t really matter. There isn’t a fourth liner on a one way contract in the nhl that stats heads would say us worth that contract. I’m sure stats people freak out about the “value of the Islanders 4th line, which basically carries the entire team.

Yeah, Gudbranson was more of a ragdoller. Reaves is more of a beat-you-to-a-pulp kinda guy.

Sullivan is an absolute coward. He played like a coward. Has there ever been a player to have like zero goals and zero penalty minutes in a career? He coaches like an absolute wussy.

EDIT: we’re retaining...

EDIT 2: Conditional 2021 pick. We literally had to bribe the Wild with salary retention to take him for free. And some chuckle heads on here thought he’d be worth something...

Wow that’s insane, so I guess they knew somehow they couldn’t LTIR him? Very odd, but I guess McCann stays unless he has another 3C in mind he can get.

I'll be curious to see how much they retain. Most of my armchair gm's I generally retained $500K to $1M.

I really wasn't sure what his value was, but Im guessing this is the best way for them to clear more space than taking back a roster player.

The conditional 7th is apparently based on how many games he plays. Not sure how that works. You can’t get lower than a second so if the conditions aren’t met does it turn into an even further in the future 7th? Pretty sure you it can’t just not convey into nothing.

Even if we retain the full 50%, that’s over $2 mil in savings. That’s not insignificant.

I guess it’s better than keeping him at his full salary. We’ll see what they do with the space now

No and I think he probably could have done better as far as return, but wanted focus more on space clearing than having to take a body back.

It makes sense from an actual money standpoint, but it doesn't make sense from a cap hit standpoint. We would have owed $1.75 in salary over the next two years ($3.5M total) but only a $600K cap hit the first year and $1.75M the next year. Pretty close either way, though.

Edit: vs. a buyout

Big cap hit for a guaranteed major injury and not super impressive when healthy. The back surgery he’s coming back from is not something to wave away at his age either. He was definitely a negative asset.

I saw the connection with Minnesota simply from a background standpoint but I figured he would go to a rebuilding team with cap space looking to take a gamble on a TDL flip. Maybe MIN is a rebuilding team now?

If you’re talking about a buy out, the worst kept secret in the NHL is that our organization refuses to buy guys out.

Lol, he def won't. But I'm pretty sure no one brought that up until Ruth asked for a first. But some people went rolling with it like it was gonna happen.
