Hawks have approx. 14 million cap tied up in Shaw , Smith , Seabrook that's unbelievable.
This has (among other things) doomed the Hawks for contention for a lottery pick for a few years. I know a lot of people get upset when Bowman gets knocked but man hey has made a lot of bad moves .
How many players can a team buy out ?
Those 3 are impossible to move plus I don't think Maata or DE Haan could be moved without retaining salaries. - HamiltonHawk
I am willing to give Seabrook a break because I think once he starts getting back in game shape he will be a productive player again, and he will help out the defense in a way we haven't seen in a few seasons. |

I don't see any team helping other teams with cap hits for a few years. That's just stupid. I'm sure the Yotes are pissed they took Hossa. - rpeters01
Hmmm. In recent days, Toronto offloading Kapanen and his 3.2M for a 1st, and Minnesota saving Pittsburgh 2.1M by obtaining Bjugstad for a 7th.
Edit - And also Allen and his 4.3M from STL to MON for 2 picks giving the Blues some cap space to extend Pietrangelo. |

Available cap space is being quickly eaten up.
Stan - don’t get caught watching the paint dry.... |

He should like the team in Tampa or Vegas, he should like Trotz or Cooper or deBoer as head coach, he should like a recording of Rene Rancourt or Roseanne Barr singing the national anthem rather than Cornellison.... |

Stan can’t do anything until he knows what Crawford will cost, or even if he signs with them |

Good point - you beat me to the post. Toronto for the past two seasons has managed to find a partner that has helped them off the cap hook. |

The heck with progressively. Get them in there ASAP. Bowman needs to be looking to get rid of Maatta, Special K and de Haan by any means necessary. Or have them visit the Khabby staircase. - Elbows15
My impulse answers is as a NHL club tied to ticket sales they are gonna put up a white flag that they are in a rebuild, blah blah.
Maatta and deHaan were brought it so they could get to a playoff, and yeah, in a non-bizarro Covid world, they blew that and got gifted ticket to a play in....
But you know now there probably aren't gonna be fans for awhile, so if you aren't selling booze, seats in gtreat numbers does a sweeping change at dee RERALLY affect who many fans they have in the say 5 years? |

Yeah but the Kapanen was more then a salary dump . He is young and they got a first
Marleau cost a first to get rid of 1 year . I think that's a pretty heavy price.
Seabs , Shaw DeHaan and Maata have multiple years left on their contracts |

But has these machinations improved the team? Seems every time they are bounced in the playoffs, the analysis is the same thing. |

This NHL.com article has great insights from Blackhawks development coach and NHL faceoff king Yanic Perreault on his son Jacob who is aiming ot be a 1st rounder in the draft.
The elder Perreault talks about it's much harder to be an NHL winger and what it takes to win draws.
Yanic on today's wingers:
"I think playing on the wing is getting harder than it used to be; you need to be good on the forecheck, good on the wall," Yanic said. "It's more encompassing than just watching your defenseman in the defensive zone." - Theo Fox[/I]
Jacob on faceoffs:
"My dad showed me how to take draws, and I've been doing pretty well on face-offs in the OHL," he said. "The main goal on face-offs is to be ready, bend your knees and get it back.
"You need to be committed to getting better and wanting to win it more than the other guy."
This is guy that I think could slip in to the second.
If you watch him, he just doesn't move that well as of yet, but he is has a deadly shot, got on the dot and knows what's up to play... |

Well, I agree it hasn’t improved the outcomes of their seasons. But the point is that they were able to find trade partners that helped them maneuver through some of their cap problems. They overpaid to get rid of Marleau, but I’d say they also got the better of PIT in the Kap trade. |

That there is why they aren't going anywhere. You can't have that much money (going forward with the cap situation) with players not contributing, and be successful.
That has to be fixed before any turnaround can even be considered. |

The teams that are helping bail out cap strapped teams now in the covid world I think in retrospect will be sorry they did when the cap isn't any higher in three years. Time will tell? |

No team is helping to bail out teams in cap trouble.
They are acting in their best interests, and presumably have projected to potential future implications of any transactions. |

I agree with whomever posted Stan needs to put a time limit on Correy's response. Otherwise he should move on with other signings and there may not be $3.5 left for Correy later on. |

Yes it's always that way Stan projected a rising cap when he signed Toews and Kane. |
