Monahan top goal scorer from his draft class. That’s not easy to replace. He’s 25, signed for 3 more years at a reasonable price, only got room to grow.

And a couple years ago had a lot of important goals when they were coming from behind. But he has been pretty quiet the last year and 1/4. Does seem to depend on JG for a lot of those points.

What're we thinking about this Flames fans -> https://www.capfriendly.c.../armchair-gm/team/1910842

Got a little creative with this one - tight against the cap

Top rated draft able goalie. He’s ranked right around where we pick. Russian kid. Looks legit.

Think they'd be crazy not to have him on their board, but goalies are such a cluster(frank) to project, it's hard to say.

What do you guys think? I squeezed in under the cap... hopefully those UFA signings don't want more money or else they wouldn't fit.

He wont fall that far anyways so no need to worry. Most experts project Askarov to go to Nas, Car, Edm, or Tor.

Even as a goalie he should go top 15 according to most draft experts. They say he is the next Vasilevski or Price.

1 year away in their minds. 2 years in pessimistic people. Could be a full timer 2 years from now.

Give him 2 years like an Yzerman or Holland would it could be gross.

But the Flames think they already have the 1a of the future in wolf so its probably a wasted pick.

Should target borque there Imo.

Top six forward, top 4 defence, starting goalie. If they want to try and win this year, they need at least one more solid piece.

Columbus probably wouldn't do it but trading the first for Josh Anderson could work out pretty well for the Flames.

A first?? No way Anderson is worth more than a second straight up or 3-4 pick + lower end prospect.

I don't love the idea of trading away two firsts to upgrade a sniper to a 2-way player. If that were the package for say... Eichel I may change my mind.

And no chance in hell Hall is signing to be a third liner. That was Neal's problem with the Flames and I can see Hall having a similar attitude.

Yeah, I agree he likely won't fall that far - still, Spencer Knight was that guy last year and he's a couple of years away, so teams need to prep for 2-4 years for a guy to hit the NHL as a goalie. That's a heavy investment if you feel like there's a guy there that can impact the NHL next year.

We also thought/hoped Gillies was that guy, Parsons and now some are anointing Wolf as a 1a. You never know till these guys start playing against high level talent, so there's additional risk with "over-drafting" a goalie

I could live with swapping sniper for a two-way player when that two-player will bring in better play making and be better at driving play for his line mates.

Could you solve the Hall third line problem by swapping him and Mangiapani so Hall can be second line but RW side?

I am not convinced that Hall is the way forward. Unless it is a short contract at a reasonable price. In 3 years whatever contract he signs will be an albatross, I hope BT has learned his lesson in free agency .

Seems both Florida and Calgary will be shaking things up. Would be nice to somehow get Barkov but the ask would be high.

Except Askarov has already made it to the top level in Europe. He got a cup of coffee in the KHL this year already. He is likely only 1-2 years away for whomever drafts him over here provided he's willing to sign with whomever gets his rights and then spend some time adjusting to NA hockey. He's not as far away as most goalies. Could make his mark before Knight does.

Makarov says hi.
Never have enough goalie prospects, Flames have been terrible at drafting goalies and he’s being compared to Price, so not too shabby. Perhaps part of our goalie woes is Siglet.

- K-man25

I've been saying this for YEARS. Sigalet has worked with Hiller and Ramo and Elliott and Smith and Rittich and Talbot.

Ramo actually improved. Smith and Talbot were both hot in the playoffs. Those were plusses.

Hiller was a train wreck when he played for Calgary and even worse in the playoffs that year. Elliott went from having awesome numbers with the Blues to having a slow glove and no confidence with the Flames. Rittich falls apart every spring - what's up with that???

Why is Sigalet still in charge of our goalies. We need someome who knows the NHL, who knows goaltending techniques, and who has awesome communication skills. Marty Biron comes to mind, though I don't know that he'd want to give up his gig as a color commentator for the Sabres.

There's got to be someone (read anyone) better suited to coach the Flames goalies than Sigalet. Don't cheap out on the most important position.
