Tampa had to learn how to play. The talent was always there. Isles have the coaching and structure but are lacking in high end offensive talent. Oilers have two star forwards but are lacking in other key areas.
- ses111

Exactly you have to lose before you win typically. Talent is one thing but its about team play.
Islanders averaged 3 to 4 goals in the first 2 series. Same guys I think.
Every team has holes or weaknesses it how your team play addresses them that makes the difference. Saying the Islanders don’t belong is foolish as I said before. They are here they deserve it.

The islanders scorers have to score. In order to do that they have to shoot which they refuse to do. That 5 on 3 was a complete joke watching them pass along the perimeter for the entire 38 seconds of it. Honestly if I were trotz I’d sit Eberle and throw mdc in there (frank) it.

How long have we seen this with the PP not coming through? Something has to change for game 3.

Not sure I agree with the dominated description certainly not in the 3rd period but ok I like your positivity.

Thé game was ours to win. We showed tonight we have what it takes. It sucks that we lost like that, but we're not out of this. And even if we are, let's play and learn ! We were not supposed to be in the final 4 lol.

Offensively, It seems that Pulock is the only dman we have that can actually take a slapshot. Mayfield can only throw wet-noodle wristers. Toews is useful on rushes bit little else. Leddy misses the net ny a country mile....
Maybe they need to go with the ol' Doug Weight 4 forward attack on the pp

They deserve to be in this round but they are struggling to show they can play against a team like Tampa. Eberle and Beau have to continue to score and play well. Does not help if they did well in past series. Tampa and this round is a whole new ballgame. Tampa has a special forward, goalie, and Dman along with very good other pieces.

Toews has really regressed. He cannot make a big offensive play. Same for Leddy.

It''s Toews' turnovers that concern me most....

Wildschwein’s Game 3 Roster

Beauvillier-Barzal-Eberle
Lee-Nelson-Bailey
Brassard-Pageau-Kuhnhackl
Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck

Pelech-Pulock
Leddy-Dobson
Greene-Mayfield

Pipe dream, but whatever.

Throw Boychuck back in. At least it shouldn’t be too hard to sign Toews now he’s shooting himself in the foot.
- Cptmjl

Toews has struggled lately for sure.

Tough call to change things up as 5v5 they were solid tonight for the most part.
The PP lost them the game so how or who do you put in to help that without hurting the 5v5 structure.
Boychuck might be a bit slow in the foot and the rookie in a game 3 where your 2-0 down is tough as well, but Dobson might get his shot.
Hopefully they can get that PP going.
Trotz has his decisions and work cut out for him.

You could, but he’s been pretty solid with his passes. That should be used to better effect with Beauvillier.

Preferably, but I could go either or. Varlamov wasn’t terrible tonight.

They didn’t do anything offensively. They got shots but they were if the low quality variety. Tampa did an excellent job and they’re a great team but the islanders passed up and I say this meaning the entire team not just one specific player passed up excellent scoring opportunities. I get it they were so focused on defense they forgot to shoot the puck or they were far to concerned with the puck going the other way that they forgot they have to score to win but the bottom line is they didn’t play good enough to win. They play like this against this team next game they will lose again. Tampa is in a different class and they’re firing on all cylinders. The islanders are not up to this point.

It's tough because this is not the Tampa teams of the past that did not focus on defense. This team is real tough to score on. Isles need to get a ton of traffic in front and that's not close to happening. Barry does not have a lot of good forward options.

Tampa is a special team. Once they focused on playing defense, they have the talent to be a very difficult team to beat. Isles have the coaching and structure but they lack the talent of Tampa. These are just facts and I hate having to post these things. Does not mean Tampa is impossible to beat but it's a real hill to climb.

If Varlamov plays the remainder of this series I bet he finishes the playoffs with a sub .900 sv%

That’s why I want Kuhnhackl back in with Pageau and Brassard. Nothing gets Frenchmen motivated like a German on their right wing.

Tampa has definitely learned how to play defense. The Islanders played well tonight and I think outplayed them 5v5 so we will just disagree on that. As I said The PP failed them and lost them the game as Tampa’s PK did its job as well I guess you could say.
As you said bottom line is they lost the game.
Next game is a must.
