@ThomasDrance on Toffoli: I think there's a fair bit of skepticism in the industry, among those I've talked to, who believe Toffoli will ultimately want to go back to Southern California. We'll see. I know the #Canucks will try, and they should.

I hope they stay away from another declining asset.

I think he has 3, maybe 4 productive years left. If we can sign him, we should

Ottawa needs to make up nearly 20m in cap to hit the floor. Tierney and Brown are their biggest RFA's and neither is due a huge pay raise(Brown likely gets bridged and Tierney gets a 4 or 5 year deal with a bit of an increase). Melnik will want a guy like LE to provide a 6m cap hit with very little owed to him. We pay this years signing bonus and he becomes the perfect player for Melnik.
- Retinalz

Hopefully JV can carry LE's bag and get on the plane with him.

He should sign for 2-3 years, sit on Petey's line and rack up those points. After that, head back to Cali with a good retirement contract

Depends on the owners. Some might actually care, some probably don't give two poops. It's weird times, if their businesses are bleeding money right now why would they want to throw away more on some hockey players?
- NewYorkNuck

Right about now it's nice to have a wealthy owner who really wants a championship. FA will 100% allow them to spend right to the cap imo

Ottawa only has six NHL forwards signed, and one of them is Gaborik, they need NHL players.

One thing I did take out of the exit interview was Benning said "We were expecting him to score more when he played" Talking of Toffoli. I don't know if he was posturing or he was being candid. One thing I did notice is with or without Toffoli Canucks will still score.

I would like to see him back 3 years max and 5 mil max but either way they will be okay IMO.

I think with their owner they would welcome Sven who gets paid 1.7 mil and has a cap hit over 3 mil. Any player they trade for will have a 20 % actual money reduction. Loui's actual salary would be 800 k this year and 3.4 actual next year.

Cap Friendly has updated it site and it shows Canucks with over 14 mil in space and have the 14 th highest amount of cap space.

They have 6 RFA's that played in the NHL last season, 4 Signed to contracts that played last season and 2 UFA's. They will also likely play one or both of their top 5 picks this year. They need to add Cap without paying for it. LE will earn 1m this year and bring on a 6m cap hit. Baerschi will add a 3.36m cap hit and earn 1.7m salary. That is almost have the required cap they need to fill while paying 1/4 of the price for it on real dollars. You underestimate Melnyks willingness to ice a subpar team in order to save real dollars. LE is literally the best player available for Melnyk to make cap and save money, Baerschi is probably top 5 in that category.

EDIT: They can probably sign all their RFA's for 10-12m combined and still need to make up like 7.5-9.5m space.

I am sure he wants to move the team or he is a really cheap bastard.

I don't know what Florida is planning right now, but man I wish we could pry Ekblad from them to make a top pairing with Hughes.

I think he sells the team before he moves it. Moving costs money and I don't see a lot of markets available that will generate more revenue than he currently gets. Realistically, if he sold the team it would start generating more revenue right away. Most fans you hear from don't spend money because they don't want Melnyk, specifically, to get one cent from them.

Was just reading Vegas want to get rid of Fluery and sign Lehner. Fluery has two years left at 7 mil.

Sven for Fluery and a 2021 first. It frees up 3.7 mil for them this year and 7 mil next year .

It cost us 3.7 for a starter to play with Demko this year .

In theory that's ok but we don't want Ekblad impeding Hughes' run to the Norris Trophy. winkyface

Would love that – he's only 24 too. Which is crazy.

I think that would cost an arm and a leg, though. That team is sort of treading water right now

It will be interesting what Sens do there are other teams that will be approaching.

Though Canucks also have Rousell, Beagle, Sutter front loaded with less salary to cap. That's like $10M cap for around half the price on 3 guys that can help their youth. Then you can push LE out and have enough to sign all 3 top Canuck UFA's. Keep Ferland LTIR and invest in a 3LC/RSD.

Would JV, Hogs, Lind, rights to Tryamkin, Stecher be enough? IF Panthers want to save money not being tied up in one guy while filling the holes from UFA losses.

If LE had the choice between NHL Ottawa or AHL Utica, I'm sure he'd love Ottawa

Give our scraps for a Calder winning #1 overall pick?

It would probably be Boeser, JV and a 1st round pick just to get a conversation.

Its 3 guys that can fill their top 6 holes on a retool plus two 4/5 D to float the D hole of 1D that costs about the same as all the above.

Mmm scraps.

Honestly, would hate to give up Boeser, but for a stud #1 RHD, that wouldn't be the worst trade.
