And Eichel takes up 10 million so they have 60 million left!!! We are going to have to see some serious player movement for sure and teams will want to make deals as you have stated a few times with and eye on actual money vs. cap hit. This off season will be super busy for all teams.

I also think that JB has learned to use the media to set early parameters for future negotiations ( "Marky has earned the right to test free agency") Basically saying we won't be backed into a corner. and he has manged to get players signed to lower contracts than originally speculated(Boeser, Myers-I still don't love it but most expected him to be 7+) I feel like they will have to give the ELC's of Hoglander, OJ and even Lind fill out the lineup.

I agree he has gotten a lot better at contracts in his last two year. Canucks absolutely don't need to get backed into a corner.

Maybe but the 2021-22 season will be difficult to manage contract wise. They have 9 players under contract for $40M. That doesn’t include any of the young guys like EP or QH. JBs definitely walking the tightrope. He’s going to need to keep signing his draft picks to reasonable contracts. No more of those stupid overpriced FA signings!

Strange thing is that the 2021-22 season will probably start a year from now. Training camps anyway. The 2020-21 might be a poopshow so 21-22 might be the first legitimate hockey season since covid.

Under today’s circumstance, I don’t think it’s too far out to start thinking about it and the possible complexities of our young core getting paid. Brock will be making $7.5M by then. What will EP command based on that pay scale?

I have heard it said on good authority that the signing of Beagle,Sutter and Rousell will not impede signing the young guns.

I think you have to forget how things were done. Reports now of multiple owners wanting to sell , no fans for income , flat cap for 5 years.

So far every trade this year has been a cap dump.

Canucks have over 20 mil coming off the books next year and Demko Petey and Hughes has no arb rights to be signed.

Canucks have 18 teams below them with less cap space . If Benning comes in and pays Marky Toffoli and Tanev all over 6 mil and 4 year contracts or longer I will be first in line to have him fired.

I think any cap discussion is a worthy discussion regardless of personal opinions about the current situation. When you look at MSM talking points in regards to the Canucks it’s usually about cap implications. I think it’s a valid concern over the next 3-4 seasons.

It is a league wide issue not a Canuck issue.

I have actually bookmarked this page.

I don’t think it’s beyond reality that he might just do something like that. This is going to get interesting.

Agreed. But I want JB to be mistake free to make up for the boneheaded signings of the past. Too much to ask?

True, but the NHL has gone all in on the Stanley Cup and has done an incredibly poor job promoting the achievement of winning the Prez Trophy. To their own detriment they’ve downplayed it to the point of it being worthless.

Look at the BPL. It’s a huge deal winning the league trophy and they’ve done an amazing job emphasizing its importance.

They did . They said I am not sure how much he will get 7.1 or 8 but I would front load a deal 10 per and make the final years cheap.

I think we just got a 9 mil fine for doing something like that
