The problem is, almost 40% of his 33 points in the regular season came on the PP. The team needs to be better, faster and heavier in its bottom six.

35% of Petey's came on the PP. Is that a bad thing?

The team does need to be heavier and faster in the bottom 6. Gaudette can be upgraded on. I just think he's far from the first one to be upgraded on. He's a young, cost-controlled C who loves the team and has one of the best work ethics. He'll get better.

40% of 36 points with 27 of his points coming at 5v5.

You excel at math I see.

You're talking Gaudette. Which still 12 out of 33 is not 40%

I said “almost” 40%, 36 is almost 40

Canucks had one secondary assist on an empty net goal from their third line the entire seven game series vs Vegas, it’s an issue come playoff time.
- Pacificgem

Virtanen with his 18 regular season goals. Gaudette was on for 12 of them. Roussel for 9 and I can't find the tweet Jeff Paterson put out but Beagle, Motte and Sutter weren't on for a single goal this season of Virtanen's.

I don't think Canucks had a lot of trust in him and they sat him out. If you are losing out to Beagle and Sutter then you want to at least look at upgrading

It’s not necessarily Gaudette’s production that’s the issue, it’s how they play the game. Same goes for Sutter, he’s good at certain facets of the game but he’s not very good at all at others. I’m just advocating for better all around players if they want to be competitive in the playoffs.

Unless there is some grand scheme to replaced the 69 points the two of them had this year vs the rest of the none top 6 players who had 97 points combined which was 10 other players.

I do like how everybody is in love with Tuch in the playoffs. I mean his 17 points in 40 some odd games during the regular season is Sutter level. Van fans would have traded him at the deadline because he's a bust.

If he was, he would be a top 6 player. Scoring was the issue. Van's top 6 is still soft. Virtanen is still one of the most physical players Van has. Who does Van have that can absolutely replace the physicality and production being a team that fought for the playoffs this season, they can't just afford to lose without replacing.

Vs Las Vegas everything was the issue, except goaltending, only game two I think it was were they actually in the game. They were lucky it went past five games.

They were too slow, other than the top players, they were outmuscled, they continually chased the game which leads to being outshot almost 2-1 every game.

OR you need a coach that understands the game of hockey and isn't going to wait till the period is over to make changes.

Game 4. Peter DeBoer, AV and Barry Trotz all played their back up goaltenders. Green didn't and his goalie gave up 3 in the 3rd period alone and 5 weak goals on the night.

Benning talked about the depth that they brought along with them. Where were the fresh bodies when Van was getting dominated most nights? I mean you can't tell me that you couldn't put in Zac Mac or Eriksson and give someone else a rest. It's not as if some of the players did (frank) all some nights and certainly could not have been easily replaced.

Went back nightly to the worst tandem in the league this season Myers and Fatty.

I think this year is the year to continue to right some of the wrongs. Time to give up on some players.

I have been watching the the highlights on Hoglander and listening to Benning saying he is expecting some prospects to push for spots I am seriously wondering will Hog grab the 3RW or even 2 RW

I would definitely go with a 50 pt center like Danault or a comparable over any of the current bottom 6 centers.

That's what Vegas does. They have too, to make the other team look bad. They don't have the ceiling that Van has when they are on or a lot of other teams. Van's got to learn to play at that ceiling like Tampa bay does.

There obviously needs to be changes.

Little more size on the back end, better puck movers.

Move on from Sutter so he can stop sucking the offence out of the rest of the bottom 6.

Gaudette scored at .57 ppg which is like 46 points over a season. During college he was basically known for being relentless and hounding pucks and pressuring other teams defence. I don't think in a year or two youre going to have any less in Gaudette than what Philip is at 27 now.

I could see Hoglander taking a 3rd line spot over if they moved Roussel. I think it should be a fight between Lind and Hoglander for that spot on Gaudette's wing.

Someone somewhere is going to have to be sacrificed because Leivo is still a good option for 3rd line as well.

For me that first person is Pearson for cap reasons and age and how much he could get in return.

Don't forget how great Jordie Benn was when in MTL and how not so great he was when Baumy and Greener got a hold of him.

Well said, and welcome back indeed

Though I prefer Hoglander over Lind. Higher ceiling, and a more offensive player.

It was a fun couple of hours catching up. I'm glad everyone seems to be doing well and still alive.

I might come back if Van gets a draft pick in the first or second round but I'm not sticking around until then or after.

Pop in and out every 6 months to have a roaring argument and bounce.

If I learned anything in the playoffs regarding the Canucks, especially from watch Dallas vs Vegas, they need exactly what you said, bigger/heavier more mobile defenseman and they need another puck mover back there.

I think bigger is the key. Even when Myers came back, he wasn't being run off the puck like Stetch, Fatty, Tanev, and Hughes were. He was able to stand his ground. Look at Tampa – their defense are big tall dudes. It's not always about gooning forecheckers, but just being able to take some bumps without flying.
