Hmmm...I sort of forgot about that. But isn't the expansion draft more about how many players you get to protect rather than expose? I know at least one goalie needs to be exposed, but I wasn't aware that the other positions were included in this. I guess it makes sense that they would be. Good call. |

I agree with you that Ruhwedel shouldn't be a 6. I think he's solid as a 7 though and isn't at an age where it likely to drop yet. It's also not really a hard contract to move and one you can bury in the minors worse case.
Yes, it is unusual to extend a healthy scratch guy a year out, but at league minimum why not. - Tojo.

Does Matt Mattin have more goals this playoffs than Domick Simon did in 300 games on Sids wing yet? - Grinder47

3rd pair D can be handled basically at anytime, I think Ruth may wanna see what POJ and Maniscalco do as well. Rikki is also in the mix, I really like the way he plays. Honestly our third pair can possibly be made from within. I'd work on that 3c in a trade or maybe try for Granlund who you brought up. - 668710
I'd go along with all of this. I'm not sure what to think about Granlund. It looks like he played mostly winger in Nashville. He's definitely talented. How much will he want? Free to acquire is a bonus. |

I'm not sure what he's looking for but if we are gonna trade McCann I would hope we have a plan for 3c that's more than Bjugstad lol |

I don’t believe Granlund has played center for a long time. I’m pretty he’s mainly played wing. |

The way I see it, I believe Jacko might be pushed to a #7 spot or, most likely, traded. I was banking on Joseph becoming a regular on the bottom pairing with Pettersson (I don't see him as a clear cut 2nd pairing D yet) and we could sign a guy like Barrie (or Schultz back) to play with Marino.
Nothing wrong with signing Riikola (is it a two-way deal?) and Ruhwedel for depth IMO... |

Nah, no more Schultz. I think he's cooked. He was only good for 1.5 seasons, anyway haha. Major injuries a factor, no doubt, but I'd like a different look this season...or even a Ravishing Rick Rude 3rd pairing would be fine for me. No JJ or Schultz = 8.75 mill cap hit gone. A Rick Rude pairing would be a 1.85 mill cap hit. So much more space for other needs.
Speaking of Rik and Rude, what has Rik done to warrant getting paid 450k more a season than Rud? hahaha

Maybe. As of right now the Pens would need/want to protect Letang, Dumo and Petts. Marino would be exempt. If they tried to protect JJ I would be shocked.

Hey make no mistake about that: I'd only want Schultz back for less than $3M. There's no reason to see him getting anywhere close to $5M.
I value Schultz' smarts and PP qualities tbh. Barrie on a prove me deal would be a decent replacement. He's been BAD for Toronto. |

I think so, no? I forget the formats of each option you can elect. |

* Each team can protect up to seven forwards, three defensemen, and one goaltender, or nine players regardless of position;
* All players with no-movement clauses must be protected unless they’ve agreed to waive;
* Any player with two or fewer years of NHL/AHL experience is exempt;
* Teams must expose players who meet certain criteria. There must be at least one defensemen and two forwards who are under contract for 2021-22 and played at least 40 NHL games in 2020-21 or 70 NHL games total since the start of 2019-20. Teams must also expose a goaltender who is either under contract for the 2021-22 season or about to enter restricted free agency.

In retrospect of the last expansion... would you still pay to let Fleury go?
Pens were rumored to be able to get a 1st rounder for Murray at the time. So keeping Murray was the equivalent cost of a 1st and a 2nd... I think you could say Fleury has outperformed Murray since going to Vegas. |

So yeah, possible. Very unlikely, but possible. If he's still a Penguin by the expansion draft, I expect the Penguins to pull a Fleury type move using Hornqvist.
This draft is after the 20/21 season, correct?

Hindsight is 20/20, but yes, I move Murray, but do you know the chaos we'd see on this board? I'm almost glad we did just so we didn't have to hear the constant whining we already saw with Fleury amplified and the constant Murray-Watch and comparison.
It was still the right move to do at the time and JR shouldn't have any regrets. You have a goalie who just nabbed you two cups as a rookie and is cheaper.

I watched a clip on TSN and they're stating Daly believes a January 1st start date is more likely than December 1st and still expects it's possible to have an 82 game season.
If they NHL can actually start the season I think for the sake of future NHL schedules they need to do a half season. Obviously money talks, but unless they're looking to permanently change the start of the season I can't imagine the players are going to end the 20/21 season in August only to have one, maybe two months off to start the 21/22 season. Sure, all but 16 teams will have a longer layoff, but we'll definitely see a spike in injuries if these guys don't get a solid rest. |

I think it was the right move to do at the time as well...hopefully we keep Jarry this time though.
Give me a list of players you'd protect from next expansion.
I'd probably go the 7F, 3D and 1G route. Crosby, Malkin, Guentzel, Zucker, Rust, Kapanen, McCann (the 7th option is hard since we have Blueger, Tanev, exposed). On D Letang, Dumoulin and I don't know if Marino and Pettersson can be exposed. |

Keeping MAF would have been more cap money so maybe there’s no room to sign JJ. |
