Okay guys and gals who would you rather have in goal for the next year or two Crawford or Fleury?

Fleury's cap hit for the next two years in 7M. Assume that the Knights would retain the maximum 50% in a trade to offload him to sign Lehner. Fleury's cap hit to the Hawks would be 3.5M, the same as the reported amount Stan offered to Crow (albeit only for one year).

Vegas would want not any salary back so give them back a 3rd or 4th round pick. Also to help Vegas out of cap hell they would have to throw in a sweetener such as a decent prospect or a higher pick.

Fleury does have a 10 team no trade list on his modified NTC.

Theo, if you want feel free to throw this idea out in your upcoming goalie blog.

See my post above. You also have to remember, Fleury did Vegas and Pittsburgh a favor by waiving his NTC to be picked in the expansion draft to become the face of the franchise. i do not think his agent is going to make it easy on Vegas to trade him, His 10 team NTC could be exactly the teams that would be interested in him, and he can make his own deal and come out financially better off than before.

And is Lehner only going to accept $5 mil.?

Those are good points LA. Just having fun throwing some things out for speculation.

Side note ... Does anybody know when a player with a modified NTC submits his trade to, or not trade to list? Is it at the beginning of a season, the end of a season, or whenever he is approached by the GM asking for the list.

Also once the played submits his list, how long is it in effect for?

Prior to the start of every season, the player is asked to provide a list of teams to which he would be willing to be traded or NOT traded to. This list can change or fluctuate from season to season.

Speaking of modified NTC's, Saad has a 10 team can be traded to list kicking in this off season.

Assume this would be cup contenders or, since being from Pittsburgh, various Eastern teams.

I think the Kings are going to pick Stutzle to play left wing. Kings are overloaded with center prospects. Besides who you mentioned, Anderson-Dylan, Villardi, Tyler Madden, Thomas, Lizotte are either ready, or probably another 1/2 season in the A away from being ready to play for the big club.

Yeah, I thin k he plays really soon and he was already in over his head as a cnetre in the German League.
The issues is he WANTS to play Centre.
So in your pre-interviews do the interested teams say what they thin k is his path, ignore his statements, or ask him to test the waters?

I think he displays Kane-like abilities, but Byfield dropping to slot three in my opinion, is going to a terrific big scoring physical player on the board at three.

I have trouble thinking LA is going this way.

My only argument is, and I'm not saying Strome will develop into a top 6 center, in 3 years where is Toews going to be? Toews is at the 32 year old threshold, he's not getting any younger and based on some studies most players at 32 and up their play begins to diminish.
- BetweenTheDots

In 3 years Towes may slide down to 3C (he's suited perfectly to that role with his defensive ability), & Dach moves up to #1. So long term they need a 2C.

I hope Stan is watching when Tampa plays. What acquisitions did they make at the trade deadline? Getting Blake Coleman and Barclay Goodrow, two strong, physical, heavy, hard-to-play-against forwards that was added to the current group of Lightning players and really made the team more competitive and a more dangerous team. Brisbrois was criticized for giving up #1's for each, but if your picking #28 and higher, it is more like a second round pick anyway. Plus Tampa got cost controlled players for awhile, and will plug in when Tampa has to shed salary (probably Palat and maybe Killorn).

So you're saying we should trade Saad (red font).

Per the Athletic, Vegas wants to sign Lehner to a contract extension, but they are tight against the cap like most teams. The writer is speculating that the contract would have to be at least 5x$5M and that Fleury will be traded (with salary retained) or bought out.
- boilermaker100

Vegas can trade, eat 50% and buy that part out it would cost them very little. They would be making that money back and then some by signing fatso cheap at $5m smart move.

If the team is not on Fleury's no trade list, my guess is the team that would do the deal would be looking for a sweetner (i.e Bickell, Teuvo) to make the trade work

I'll throw in Sikura. We could have Crow and MAF for $7...

Stan would want Brendan Pirri thrown in too.

Don't know if this is a realistic trade. Vegas only nets about $1M in cap space (Shaw at 3.9M and Subban at about 1M coming in) versus 1/2 of Fleury's 7M (3.5M) and McNabb's 2.5M equaling 6M going out.

Maybe Shaw can be flipped to Toronto who needs LTIR candidates for them to play their cap games. Bringing McNabb in means some Hawk D has to go. We all know the usual suspects. Krebs would be a nice addition.

But would either one like the platoon system and be willing to alternate games?

I started this conversation about Fleury to the Hawks, but the more I think about it, it won't happen. Fleury, knowing the recent history of the Hawks defense and their near the top of the league in HDSCA, will put the Hawks on his no trade list.

I'll address this to some degree in the goalie season review blog. Who knows what could happen between now and Monday when that blog is slated to come out.

Rumors that Matt Murray is being pursued by the Oilers but they're not liking the asking price. One source said that Oilers may elect to just stick with Mike Smith.

Fine, don't overpay for Murray but why stick with Smith?

Toronto is supposedly wanting to trade Anderson for a top 4 defenseman, then go after Murray also.

Rutherford's initial asking price for Murray is a 1st rounder. He wants to get that pick back after trading his 1st to Toronto for Kapanen. Maybe he'll eventually get it back in a trade with the Leafs.

Edmonton, Calgary, Colorado and Carolina probably want a goalie upgrade. Edmonton already said no to giving up their 1st. Don't think Murray will be going within the division to the Hurricanes.

This is why i don't just want to give up on Strome, young bigger player who really hasn't embraced what he has to do to succeed in the NHL. Young is the key word

Hard to say? People love playing in Chicago, 50/50 split would be perfect for those guys whether they admit it or not.

I wouldn't give up on him either he needs to get stronger. I think we can get him cheap for now.

Anybody say anything about the Jack Adams award? Put me down for Torts getting screwed. His scrum manners after the games probably hurt his chances. I'm guessing he couldn't care less. But he still got screwed.
