Bergevin is in the driver’s seat and generally, there are no leaks about what the Habs GM intends to do.

That is mostly because any free agent of consequence either do not want to come to Montreal, or are just interested in using a Montreal offer as leverage to get the same contract from a team that has less (likely state) taxes.

There is always talk every year that Offer Sheets are so frowned upon around the league. People claim that GMs are fearful of retaliation or that their reputations will be damaged. Personally I think its a bunch of nonsense! Montreal has completed 10 trades since the Offer Sheet was matched, so at least SOME teams didn't seem to mind. Since the Canadiens were the most recent team to present an offer sheet:

Mete is an extremely useful asset and once he is signed will be very affordable. Gally is Gally. He should retire a Hab. Tatar is trade bait next year at deadline. The point is no more new small guys....

I knew you'd come around and crumble to my excellent negotiating.

In my eyes Habs can explore moving the 2020 1st if the return makes sense both short and long term. The 2021 1st I can't trade without massive protections. The playoff run put the team in a positive light but this is still a team that should have missed the playoffs by a mile and went 0-4 against Detroit. Can't be trading potential high lotto picks like Ottawa or SJ. Too big a set back for a team that isn't proven

If they need to get rid of them, then they won't get much for them. Just read yourself and look at your wording.

They may have to trade Domi but you may want to calm down with the top LD.
