Ands birds can carry respiratory diseases and spread them to humans. With dogs all you have to worry about is rabies basically.

I love dogs to and it would be tough but I think I'd pick dogs. Birds can come at you from all different angles and elevations. Dogs are limited. Build a tree house community and you're good.
