Look at the bright side. A converted touchdown would've won the game.

No excuses, but traveling to a diff time zone after a 7 game series and not getting an extra day is a BS move by NHL. It was quite apparent TB was well rested and had time to prepare. Not taking anything away from the bolts, but Isles were gassed. Even still, if Nelson converts on one or two of his early opportunities, that could have given them the jump they needed to dig down and make it a game.

To me getting to the ECF is a huge success for this team and its youth. As well as we’ve played recently, I don’t think any of us are as delusional as other teams fans (maybe 7 😁) to think this team is ready to win a cup. Frankly, I was pulling for an opportunity at Laffernie and an early exit. But am now happy with where they’ve gotten, and now the #1 for Pags has far less value than an early exit, making it an even better trade for us. Nonetheless, I hope we can regroup, take game two and make this a series.

Pretty much how I feel. We’ll see how they respond after they regroup Tampa looks like a team possessed the Islanders weren’t ready for them we’ll have a better idea after the next game whether that was due to travel and not being rested. Trotz will make his adjustments I just hope Greiss being in net is one of those adjustments Varlamov looks lost out there

One game and they write obituaries. SMH

We won't see Ross again after that bone head penalty, but perhaps some young legs to rest the old. Bunch of guys were gassed.

Greiss is not an emotional guy. He doesn't get too rammped up about anything... I don't see this effecting his confidence at all... He will be the goalie going forward.

Varly's behavior at the end of this game was absurd. He should not start the next game.

Yeah that’s when they show up. Expect more Leaf fans from you know the team that didn’t even make the playoffs. That’s why everyone loves them.

I'm not putting too much weight on this win. Trotz is a solid coach and the Isles are a strong team, so I expect they won't take well to having 8 goals bombed on them. It was a perfect storm. Bolts got all the bounces, the puck had eyeballs for the Lightning, they were rested, Isles were gassed from battling and travel, Varly smoked crack prior to the game, and Point woke up that morning with chub.

Let's see what happens in game two. I expect the Isles will come out flying with a point to prove.

This season is a huge success regardless of what happens this series. This is going to be a very difficult series to win. Hopefully the Isles bounce back in game 2.

The season is/was a big success I agree but I’m not a fan of this sentiment and I hope the team isn’t also. The isles need to rest up and play their game tomorrow.

No. The team has to go all in to try to win this series. Tampa is the clear better team on paper but that cannot matter to the players.

This is pretty bang on. I also think the Isles have a better shot in this series then everyone is giving them credit for. I think they'll take the next game.

Question, do the Isles retain Greiss after this season and trade Varlomov? I havent seen much of Varlomov, not sure who is better between the two.

Never Cpt. It's very odd but even after the loss yesterday, I was not upset at all.

I was not shocked with the loss at all. Coming off the travel and a game 7 and a very good and rested Tampa team. Isles were also due to lose a game 1. Tampa is the better team and should win this series but it does not have to end up this way.

With Sorokin signed and Varlamov having three years on his contract left they won’t be resigning Greiss. Unfortunately...

Well Sorokin based on reports appears to be ready for the NHL, so I guess you Varlamov will be insurance while he gets adjusted.

I agree, but I do also think the the Isles are the type of team to give Tampa problems. Well see after next game which I think they will be much better in.
