Should be passing on Pietro either way. Read the blues have offered him 8.25 x 8. The leafs can only offer 7 years, which means they have to offer a 9 mil AAV to get even close.
What's your pairings look like at that point? Spoiler alert, it's not looking good for the 35 minutes a might Pietro and Rielly arent on the ice.
If they can free up 9-10 million they need to be looking at two defenseman who can play the right in the top 4. Balanced pairings are the only way an offense first team can do their thing... - joel878
Josh only 4.1 for 2 more yrs. 29 in Oct. Solves 2 issues, can D well. not perfect but well, and no one will be getting stupid with Leaf forwards. Plays against top lines. And with the way the Leafs can score... He'd never have to leave the D zone. They don't need any offense from him.
That's 1 now you only need 1 more solid guy for the backend. |

Justin Holl did fine against top comp.
I just look at the numbers and see a guy who has never played against anything but top competition his whole career and has been great other than last year on a poop Devils team...But hey even Doughty looked like poop last season.
I don't blow my top over a bad season....Especially when said players are playing for bottom 5 NHL teams. Too many fans do. - Santo_44
Why don't we go for Jeff Skinner while we are at it?
Now is not the time for the Leafs to be attempting reclamation projects on high priced talent. Especially when it is the type of players we don't need.

Leafs need two defensive-minded dmen, and at least two more defensive-minded forwards.
Since Cliffy is leaving, they could also use a “deterrence” |

I wouldn't say no, but there's a few options I like more I'd want to exhaust first.
Being reliable defensively is #1 for me, anything else is the perk. I think finding guys other teams know will not tolerate anyone on the ice being (frank)ed with is easy enough to do in the bottom 6 that I wouldn't be willing to pay a premium for it on the blueline. |

Make that 2nd Boston’s 1st. |

Johnsson, Lilegren, 1st for Parayko.
Demelo at 3 x 3.5
Dermott, Kerfoot for Zacha.
Muscle will come on waivers if nothing else.
Just (frank)in pay me. |

Leafs should have no interest in bringing in anyone who isn’t defensively sound.
Just grow the defensive side of the game (addition by subtraction) and the offence will take care of itself. Look what Tampa did, they got better defensive players, and heavier players. They’re winning the cup. |

Perfect. Trade for Parayko, sign Demelo. Instant credible blueline. - joel878
I think the blues will not be anxious to trade Parayko, much as he would be good for the Leafs. Demelo is a decent inexpensive option, other UFA's I would consider;
Hamonic, Brodie, Pysyk, Kevan Miller (depending on injury), Dunn, Tanev, Brenden Dillon. In addition, a trade for a d-man like Pesce or Manson could work well.

I agree, a little more emphasis on teaching would be a good thing as well. Las Vegas hired a really good GM out of junior. Mario Pouliot would be a good addition to teach defense. Leafs have the resources, spend money on training your draft picks.

Except it is.
Does Subban suck? Yes.
Does Subban have a sh1t cap hit? Yes.
Is Subban the type of D we NEED? NO!
What's to argue here???
There are 30 other teams. Pick a different D. You're wrong on this one. Period.
Try again.

Honestly that’s pretty sweet.
I’m sure a lot of players sit on their ass during the offseason and get fat and then try and ramp it up 2 weeks before training camp to try and it shows.
Glad he is working on himself good step to getting back to where he was before this season. |

Who else from the Leads can put the puck in the net other then Reiley?
I'm not saying Subban the answer. I'd like to see a dman that can hit the net with his shot and defend.
The Leafs will need one of each. Hopefully not
