Not that this would be popular but I could see a high end prospect as part of a package to address other areas the team needs to upgrade.
- VanHockeyGuy

If Hoglander is attached to a deal it needs to be a damn good one. Not saying no but it would need to be where you high five ater the trade.

I won't be as surprised this time around.

I hated what we paid for JTM, happy to be wrong.

Didn't think we'd make the playoff's, happy to be wrong.

Quality players will cost you, but with the cap the way it is you may luck out again.

I think Hoglander and Podkolzin are as near to untouchable as you can get – I think JB knows that there will be some holes in the top 6 in the next couple years and he'd be an idiot for trading away guys that are going to fill it.

That said, if it massively addressed a young number 1 RHD, then ya, I could see him making a move like that. Like you said, it'd have to be a huge win-win trade...

"I think there will be a major trade. But it's going to cost you collateral. You're not trading Eriksson or Sutter for a 4th rounder, or for a younger player with potential. You're trading those guys PLUS something for almost nothing"

Maybe Boston would be a good trade partner? If they're loosing Krug (LHD) this offseason, they might want another puck moving guy to take his place. Canucks could build a package around Rathbone and Jake to try to get one of their RHD in Carlo or McAvoy (though he's highly unlikely to be moved).

Carlo and McAvoy (BOS), Ekblad (FLA), Cal Foote (TBL), Anthony Deangelo (NYR), Conor Timmins (COL), Dumba (MIN), Fabbro (NAS)

Some names that might be worth looking into that are younger RHD, depending on where their team is at and if they actually want to move them

I thought that too. I don't see the Canucks trading Sutter. One year left utility guy. I will guess they will give up nothing to move him.

Green likes him so all other opinions don't count

Really poopty that Benning put the organization in that predicament. Our prospect pool isn’t that strong anymore with Petey and Hughes becoming full time NHL players, we can’t afford to bleed assets.

Yup but those are the sacrifices made by the greatest GM the Canucks have ever had on a long list of sh*tty GM's.

Is any team's prospect pool that strong when their top three to five players all graduate within a couple years?

Not only that but Benning hasn't done anything yet

Just because Ferraro says he thinks it will happen doesn't mean it will. Last I heard he has no ties to Canucks but is hired by a company that likes to sh1t on Canucks.

I don’t know, I only follow two, the point still stands no matter how you try and deflect it. The team is still building and isn’t in a position to be giving up assets to fix mistakes.

Hopefully it doesn’t happen but he’s just stating the obvious, that’s typical of what happens in the league when trying to purge contracts. I hope he just sits tight and eats the last years of the Sutter, Eriksson, Baertschi & Beagle contracts.

Not deflecting so no need to get defensive. I agree we shouldn't be shipping off a lot of assets, I just find it laughable that it's a bad thing our prospect pool isn't great because our elite prospects are now elite players on the team.

Benning is down the list of good Canuck GM’s; Pat Quinn, Jake Milford, Brian Burke and Mike Gillis are probably the best GM’s we’ve ever had, and none of them are world beaters by any means. By far the most successful GM’s we’ve ever had.

"One of the things we report...is #Canucks will look to shed salary this summer. The expectation is Jim Benning will become more personally involved this week, now that the team is eliminated. Benning is expected to gauge the market over the course of this week"

I know everyone says it but it doesn't mean it is the obvious.

I think Loui has a 25 % chance of being sent to Utica and bring in Hoglander. 25 % chance he is a Canuck . 25 % chance traded with an asset . 25 % Bought out that gives Canucks 2.6 mil relief this year.

I don't think Sutter is going anywhere .

Point is we have to wait and see what Jim does.

More than a few people have said go with Demko and don't bring back Toffoli. If Canucks go that route they have very little shopping to do this off season.
