The Flyers look like a bunch of ocean liners on the ice while every other team they faced had speed boats. I felt both the Canadians and Islanders skated circles around the Flyers and to me this is a big problem; i.e. the Flyers are not built for today's NHL game. The other big problem for the Flyers is their so-called top players are not top players when you compare them around the league. Here are my top priorities if a I am the GM:

1. Its time to insert more speed and skill in the lineup but to do so we need cap space and spots open for new players to be inserted. I would thus move JVR and Jake. They are two of the highest paid players on the team and frankly they are not even close to earning it. JVR is slow and inconsistent, Jake is a turn over machine that rarely wins a puck battle. Neither have made the PP better for this team, which killed the Flyers in the playoffs.

2. Myers and Sanheim are good, but neither uses their size and is physical, and this was a problem for both of them in and around the net in their own end. The Flyers need a physical defenseman, maybe Zamula is the guy or maybe they can use some of that cap space to get more physical defensively.

3. Its time for G to give the up the 'C'. Giroux is simply not the same player he was even 3 years ago. He doesn't skate nearly as well, and he doesn't shoot the puck nearly as much. I would move the 'C' to Coots and move G down to a 2nd or third line role.

4. The Flyers need top 3 forward talent, and right now I really can't say they have it. I think Coots can be as effective as, say, Patrice Bergeron, but after that, who on this current roster is Pastrnak or Marchand? The Flyers need to find these players either in the draft or via trade, right now I don't see anyone in their system that comes close. Top end talent is a must if you are going to win this league. Tampa, the Islanders, Vegas all have it and they are all in the semis.

Anyway, those re my priorities, what say you all?

Agree on everything sans the captaincy discussion. I think who wears the C is overblown and if you’re going to strip a guy of it you might as just move him. Coots gives the same non answers to every question just like G does. It’s not really going to change anything.

The point of removing the C is to force him to ask for a trade IMO.

Plus I do think it is time to move on captain wise from him.

Eh. I take no pleasure in seeing it happen. Since the team I root for was defeated, I want the cold-comfort of knowing that it only happened against the best opponent. As of now, that's not the case.

I hear ya, I just wouldn’t mind seeing Tampa win it all. They’ve been so close to winning and their rosters have been loaded over the years. Similar to Ovi and the Caps

They would likely have interest in Zamula and Sandstrom though packaged with Voracek. Both are prospects that check their boxes and are the guys who are closer to being NHL ready

lol Sandstrom. They don’t want jake in any fashion that is realistic.

Toronto is not going to take on Voracek and his 8.2M cap hit with 4 years left on it. They also need NHL ready experienced help. That's the biggest check box for them.

Flyers don't win a cup while G and V are still on the team. Bottom line here. Let's keep changing coaches and blame it on the young guys but it's these two that are the problem.
