Reasonable intelligent response. I think you might be in the wrong place.

Yes, well said.

I still would try to see if we could get another disgruntled star on a discount (relatively speaking)

People.

We lost to a better team. The same team that dismantled the Capitals AND the Panthers.

The Islanders are a team built to win now. They gave up a lot to get final pieces for this run and the pieces are all coming together at the right time.

The Flyers have some older veterans in Giroux and Voracek but for the most part they are a very young team. Myers, Sanheim, Provorov, Farabee, NAK, Hagg, Lindblom, Hart, all getting their first real taste of a long NHL post season and having to do it in a stupid bubble with no fans.

Its the weirdest environment imaginable for this.

All this rending of cloth and gnashing of teeth is cute and typical. But we gotta (frank)ing relax. This team is ahead of where we thought they would be when this all started at the beginning of the season. They were right at the top of the division and went 7 games in the second round.

Everyone need to cool their jets. Next season we will have a healthy Lindblom and Patrick replacing guys like Thompson and Grant.

We will have another quality young guy coming in to replace Braun.

We already have one of the best goalies in the game.

We have a solid top 4 who just gained valuable experience.

We have Morgan Frost knocking on the door and Joel Farabee a year older and experienced.

This talk of trading Giroux with one year left on his deal is asinine.

We are in good position with the flat cap because we have low priced improvements coming back.

Just relax, be thankful we had hockey at all, a take solace that this team had the gumption to take a better and more experienced squad to seven games.

They just ran out of gas.

That experience will help everyone in the long run.

I was so bummed, I didn’t want to get out of bed this morning. Then I did, and then read hockey buzz.
I was completely down until I read this! You have a great outlook and it has inspired me to not give up hope. The future is still bright. Thank you for lifting my spirits.

Who cares what he might want. Fact is he doesn’t have anyone over a barrel you schlep as 30 teams will be lining up for his services. They can tell him to pound sand and there is nothing he can do. You dig you dope

Couturier - Sanheim -1st is laughable. Don’t you get it

I admire your optimism, but here is my point-by-point response:

1.
Patrick may not be able to play 40 games a season again, may not be the same player if fear of concussions is an issue, and was frankly, underachieving relative to expectations before he went down.

Lindblom had a nice start to last season. he had hit a wall long before his injury, after he was no longer on the same line with Couts and TK. And you don't cure cancer, it only goes into remission. Enough said about the last part.

2. How do you know he will be quality before he ever plays?

3. No, we MAY have one of the best YOUNG goalies in the game. Don't anoint him as a Vezina star just yet. Broan Boucher says hi from his rookie season!

4. The same solid top 4 where the veteran first pairing looked like he was done, and the young second pairing got repeatedly undressed? Correction: We MAY have a good top 3.

5. Interesting use of knocking on door. Tell me why he has been shown out so often then and could not play above a guy 2 months away from cancer treatment? Optimistically, in the best case scenario, Farabee and Frost are 2-3 years away from playing top 2 line roles on a good club.

6. Two years.

7. JVR , Ghost, Voracek and Roo raise a cheer.

8. In EXACTLY the same way they ran out of gas in 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20, with some of the SAME PLAYERS. Gee, I wonder why that is.

9. Like I said, that familiar refrain rises again. (" As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again. After all, tomorrow is another day!)

In summary: here is the situation. We currently have what looks like a club that is on merit and talent somewhere in the 8-16 range. There are some promising pieces, which are at best 50-50 to be stars, so the median guess is we will largely stay in that range based on current course.

You don't take guys in the bubble "expecting": them to play playoff hockey. You have your plan B, and plan C and plan D.

They took Lindblom, who went through radiation, chemo and surgery. They took Frost, who has never managed tostay in the lineup, and Andreoff. Patrick was skating and shooting pucks before the break.

Think about what it means for Lindblom to make it to plan D and not Patrick.

- PT21

Unlike Patrick Lindblom participated in Training camp and played games this season. He was taken into the bubble because he was in remission and he was able to play hockey again.

Frost also played hockey this year and spent some time with the Flyers. I dont really know the relevance of Frost because he did not play a playoff game and was only there in case of injury.

Like I said Practicing is not the same as playing. Unlike NoPa everyone else there played hockey this year. Playoff hockey is so much different than regular season hockey. Like I also pointed out the players in the buble also had a training camp which was something Patrick didnt have. You cant just show up and play hockey at playoff time. Even Lindblom showed signs of rust and like I said he played this year. There are several stages in a hockey season and you cant just go from 0-3 instantly.

Look at Nylander during his RFA period. He missed half a season and it took him the rest of the season to catch up.

I would say myers and Zamula should still count even tho they went undrafted, the Flyers still picked them up. Myers looks like a stud and Zamula is looking like he will follow in myers footsteps
- Richieattack18

We were talking about forwards picked late in the first round.

Myers looks good, and Zamula I hear is promising.

But I find it sad that when asked about a past record, people project into the future to rebut.

That essentially makes my case better than I ever could.

I've been eading through the post-mortems of the Flyers playoff run in this thread, and man there are a lot of hilariously awful hot takes.

Jesus, people. Its not that bad. Yes, the Flyers lost in Game 7 of the second round and at times looked overmatched. This is true. But, they were one of the last 8 teams standing in the oddest sports season that any of us has likely ever seen after several years of bitter disappointment where the Flyers didnt make the playoffs at all. The sky is NOT falling.

The franchise is NOT the laughingstock of the NHL, The Flyers are NOT a clown show. The coach is NOT thoroughly inept (Adams finalist). Couturier's usage is NOT ridiculous (Selke finalist). The GM is NOT a tire fire inside a dumpster fire. Its going to be ok.

Are you seriously making the case that Patrick did not play because he missed training camp in 2019 and was thus fitter than Lindblom who did but since then underwent radiation, surgery, and chemo this year?

Every player had a layoff that is far worse than the traditional layoffs between seasons. This was essentially a new season. They had a 2020 3 week camp prior to this season.

Explain to me why it was enough for the other players and not for Patrick?

You are clutching at straws.

You can't play the biggest game the franchise has seen in a decade and come out and look like a beer league team. The effort last night was a flat out disgrace.

I don't think anyone has said the coach is inept, or the franchise is a laughing stock.

Couturier tried to play on one leg last night. Those are the actions of a leader. Lindblom getting in two games is heroic and inspirational. Hart was tremendous in the playoffs, and Hayes was very good. There are some things to build on for next year.

That said, the future is bright crap is old, I'm sick of hearing it. Until this franchise breaks through and delivers a Cup, it's just hot air.

Who?!
- JoeRussomanno

I was. The V contract was an albatross before it even kicked in. That was really Snyder. He loved Jake for some reason... Jake never looked as good again.

You wanna see a pattern? Every time a player gets paid, he dials it back and becomes a "Family" man. Most of these guys have no passion for winning. Don't get me wrong, they want to win, just not bad enough to make the sacrifice. Guys like Provy and Hart are an exception. They eat, sleep, and breathe hockey... They go to the next level. G, Jake, JVR ad Ghost are the opposite of passion.

And Patrick? Don't delude yourself into thinking he will ever be meaningful in hockey again. he was soft from the beginning, this head thing will force him to play conservative and always be one good hit away from the end of his career. That is no way to play hockey...

Spot on. And if/when Patrick comes back the first game he misses after he takes a big hit, the cycle starts all over again. Counting on him being a part of the future is penny wise, and pound foolish.

The "future is bright" brigade is all over twitter. It's a joke. Save that poop for another day. This team just got completely dominated by the Islanders. A team I didn't even consider a threat this year. The Rangers are on the rise with the top pick in the draft. The Metro division is going to be insanely competitive next year. The Flyers can finish 7th next year and it wouldn't even be a surprise.

- PLindbergh31

Remember when they traded richards and carter, how bright the future was?
I thought so at the time too...
For me, the future won’t be “bright” until we land some real franchise forwards... i think our d-corp is fine but they and hart need to take steps next year.
We also need guys who are real number 1’s.
Not guys who are number 1 against mediocrity or when the better teams take a night off. We need guys who can impose their will on the competition.
Gawde our pp was a joke and it says a lot.
