Spot on. And if/when Patrick comes back the first game he misses after he takes a big hit, the cycle starts all over again. Counting on him being a part of the future is penny wise, and pound foolish.

The "future is bright" brigade is all over twitter. It's a joke. Save that poop for another day. This team just got completely dominated by the Islanders. A team I didn't even consider a threat this year. The Rangers are on the rise with the top pick in the draft. The Metro division is going to be insanely competitive next year. The Flyers can finish 7th next year and it wouldn't even be a surprise.

- PLindbergh31

I have been hearing this future is bright bullpoop for so long.

I heard it against Buffalo in 05 season, when the future is bright crowd told me that the fact Richards and Carter and Umberger (the future stars du jour) collected just 1 goal that series and the former 2 had no points was not disconcerting because they were young and well, the future was bright.

I heard it in 2012 and 14, when we could not overcome the Devils forecheck and when we got it to game 7 against the Rangers when we shouldn't have (like this year). Then the future stars du jour were Couts, Schenn, Simmonds and so on.

And now again.

The story remains the same, and the story-tellers. Only the cast changes.

My personal opinion is that we have a significant history of overvaluing the brightness of the future. The guys we think are going to be studs are actually decent players 1B type players, who flourish only when they are playing with actual studs (Carter, Richards et al).

So many teams seem to draft not just good players, but very god players/all-stars after the 1st round

Kucherov
Palat
Tyler Johnson
Pavelski
Benn
Pastrnak
Marchand
Bergeron
Mark Stone

When was the last time we drafted a stud forward after the first round?

- PT21

Pastrnak was a first round pick

Fletcher said the focus was him to be ready for 20-21. My guess is they didn’t wanna have a set back risk in the bubble

He had to say that.

And migraines are so mercurial, if you cannot find a cause you are screwed.

'Managing' them can give the kid an enjoyable life, not an NHL career. God it's awful.

Because why......what no one here, or the media or the organization will never talk about.....Hextall was an overrated talent evaluator and terrible GM.

Just go on Wikipedia and look up 2014-2018 NHL Draft...it lists every pick, from every round.....the mistakes made by Hextall are glaring

Seattle needs to take Voracek.

I would seriously kick tires on Leine and Eichel too.

They can be the centerpiece with Hart and Provy for the next 6 years.

Buff moves Eichel why?

They are a well coached team playing very cohesively.

Often you see guys like Barzal, who has tremendous gifts, and very young, not buy in to a system like Trotz. But that is not the case here. Dude is not hovering around his blue-line looking for high flying breakaways. He is down low, selling his body out in a way that would do a 4th line grunt proud.

Iotw, the team defensively is not too dissimilar from teams that have given you trouble in the past. They are almost as good defensively as the Jackets, and much better in breakaways.

TB will be heavily favored, but I won't take them lightly at all. They are not like the Flyers. They are for real.

- PT21

I'm not taking them lightly. I expect they will be Columbus on steroids. And Trotz is no slouch, so Cooper has his work cut out for him in that department. Cooper got outcoached by Torts last year, let's hope it's not Trotz this year.

Not even Petterson....Heiskanen and Makar as well.

Can you imagine if we had Pastrnak and Hesikanen instead of Sanheim and Patrick....could have happened.

- ClutchFlyer

Sanheim is going to be good, so not that upset about Heiskanen. Pastrnak would have been great, but the problem with that is, what do you do with TK? That only would have worked, in hindsight, if we could have traded Voracek. They, again, put cornered themselves , between Holmgren's incompetence and Snider's impulsiveness with allowing #93 and #28 to both get NMCs. Loyalty is one thing, but that was plain stupid.

Where there is smoke there's fire.

For whatever reason his name keeps popping up.

EDIT: he may be the unhappy one.

Again, I said kick the tires, nothing imminent.

I agree. This team needs an infusion of speed, they just cannot keep up with the pace of play. You can say that Giroux, Voracek, JVR, and Gostisbehere contracts are pretty bad right now. I just don't see how they are going to add to this team being up against the cap.

Thompson, Grant, Braun are all gone. I wouldn't mind signing Pitlick to a reasonable deal. I think he's a useful player in the bottom 6. They have about 10.5 million in cap space to sign NAK, Hagg, Myers and a backup goalie. Unless they are going to somehow unload JVR, or Ghost there isn't cap space to add anyone in FA.

Would cost an arm leg and upper torso
Do you want to gut the team as that is what it would take. Then your really starting from ground zero.

Said it before there are no blue chip fwd in the system. Who even projects to be top 6 besides frost? Not one and yes it is myth former gm was this draft guru imo

I am not sure he was that bad as an evaluator.

The reality is that in big markets, there is always huge pressure from fans and sth and luxury suite and media types to be competitive. You cannot afford sustained sucking. So, Hexy was constrained to pick 10-20 really, but was trying to do a rebuild on the sly with some fig leafs thrown in.

Nak I give the minimal raise required. Seen players before look the part for a short stretch then fade

Hagg sadly will get 2mm which is a joke
1 million for the back up is how I play it

JVR is going to be hard to move....Ghost will be easier.....Can you dangle to say an Ottawa or Buffalo a JVR or Voracek....one has 4 signed forwards for next year, the other 5, one has 41 mil in cap space , the other has 36 mil.

We’ll never win with Giroux, Voracek and JVR in the top six, they’ll get you through a regular season but they’re just too slow for playoff hockey. Other than his first five years with the Flyers, so the past eight years, he’s not been a factor in the post season.

Buff laughed at that imo. Sean a free agent in 2 years and will get an overpaid contract based on prior performance

That's why it's negotiating. You just said we have no A list offensive prospects. What's your solution?

Once again, should Eichel actually want out, that changes the price.

I make 2 lists of everyone in our system.

Tell Buf to pick 2 from each. One is roster players, the other picks/prospects.

I'm not married to Eichel either. I'd take Leine instead.
