You generally start getting recognized as elite from quite young. There is another model: the Burns/Giardano model, but more common is Doughty, Subban, Keith, Karlsson, Hedman who fit the prototype I described. You get a lot of buzz.

And Seth Jones, who should win it a few times in the next few years.
